About the Item

Autograph Postcard Signed by the Italian artist Giovanni Omiccioli to Silvio Perina, the director of the CIM warehouses in Rome, written on January 1st 1974, in Italian. Excellent conditions. On the front a black and white reproduction of Omiccioli's "Mare mosso". On the back, greeting autograph notes: the Italian painter remembers to his patron of arts, Silvio Perina, the invitation to his exhibition. Perhaps this is one of his latest exhibitions. Giovanni Omiccioli (Rome, 1901-1975) is one of the representatives artist of the Roman School, the most popular and loved, especially by the Romans because of the subjects of his artworks : "football matches". Omiccioli became a symbolic painter of Via Margutta. He is a close friend of Mafai and Antonietta Raphael, often working with Scipione and Raffaele Frumenti, and he gets his first personal exhibition at the Galleria Apollo in Rome in '38 . He often goes to the Osteria Fratelli Menghi, known as a meeting point for painters, directors, screenwriters, Writers and poets between the '40s and' 70s. He is also very active politically, with Mario Mafai, Guttuso and Afro. He realized the first head of L'Unità in 1945, shortly after the Liberation. In the same year he participated in the "I Mostra dell'Arte contro le barbarie", promoted by the communist daily newspaper at the Galleria di Roma and presented in the catalog by Antonello Trombadori, with a work of strong political commitment (Bruno Buozzi's Shooting). In 1950 he rented a studio at Via Margutta 51, held an exhibition in Rome at the art studio of Palma and encouraged Corrado Alvaro, just before moving for two years to the mountains of Sila, in Calabria.

He was active in the pop art movement of the 60s. Biography: Gee was born on July 23, 1932 in Leicestershire, England. He was interested in drawing as a child and worked as a graphic designer for the British army when he joined at the age of 18. By the end of the 50s, he had exhibited at the Denise Rene Gallery in Paris, where he lived briefly, and the Axiom Gallery in London. He came to the US in 1962. Throughout the 60s, Gee experienced a high degree of success as a pop artist in Manhattan. His work from this era has been collected by The Museum of Modern Art in both New York City and Kyoto, The Smithsonian and the Library of Congress in Washington DC, and The Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Gee exhibited with Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana for the "Word and Image" show in 1968 at the Museum of Modern Art.
