About the Item

This 36" x 36" x 2" acrylic on panel, 'Folding Procession 1,' by artist Bryan Boone, is the first in a limited series where the design unfolds across three pieces. "I was inspired by the conical shapes and radial lines of plant flowers progressing from buds to fully open. I was also deep into mixing new blues that captured depth while reflecting brighter tones in full light. I mixed one set of colors for all three paintings, tinting the same jars of paints to ultimately produce three blues and three greens. I was also experimenting with texture within homogeneous color fields. There is a subtle horizontal curvilinear underpainting in white that fades as it cascades from the top of the piece toward the middle. You will see these causing perturbations in the light as your eyes scan the three green fields. Bold white lines were applied in thin ribbons before the color panels. This causes the color fields to rise like islands above the bisecting channels. Each color field was applied in multiple passes to build up texture and sheen. After a base code, one to two impasto layers were applied with a silicone blade. Final passes were applied with a short bristle paddle brush to create a tight grain. The blues were applied so the grain in each field mirrors the other. The green fields were applied with a vertical texture. The orange fields were applied in a series of passes using only the paddle brush in an arching radial that originates at the apex of the cone. I constructed a simple jig to help me achieve the radial strokes."--Bryan Boone Bryan Boone is an artist and designer living and working in Kansas City. From early in life he has been captivated by architecture, construction and process.
