About the Item

Original Abstracted Composition of Coral Reef by Dave Francis Unique and vivid abstracted composition of coral reef by California artist Charles "Dave" Francis (American, 1951-2018). Blended and merging tropical hues of magenta, yellow, cyan, red and cobalt with the bleeding out of the colors around the coral add focal point but serve to create a serene and balanced composition. This painting can be hung vertically or horizontally. Unsigned, but was acquired with a collection of the artist's work. New black acid-free mat Image size: 16"H x 23"W Paper size: 18.85"H x 23.85"W Mat size: 30"H x 24"W Charles David "Dave" Francis (American, 1951-2018) was an artist from Santa Cruz, California. He worked in acrylic and stained glass, specifically because the two methods are so dissimilar: "My paintings are very loose and expressive while my stained glass is structured and very much "within the lines". Painting is an exploration and discovery process. I put paint down in many layers until I produce an image I find exciting. In contrast, my stained glass requires a lot of planning and very exacting execution."

Reef Painting #3
By Melinda Hackett
Located in New Orleans, LA
Hackett’s paintings defy popular convention. They are not figurative, decorative, representative, or even completely abstract. While it is hard to tie them to any one style or movement, they manage to be a part of all of them. Hackett’s work is influenced by pattern, midcentury design, art of indigenous peoples, and the art and craft movement, combined with a loose examination of the natural world. She creates a visual environment that is both recognizable yet strangely mysterious. While steeped in art history and influenced by a range of artists from Miro to Arthur Dove, Charles Burchfield, Agnes Pelton, Florine Stettheimer...
