About the Item

This captivating British St. Ives School abstract landscape is a striking example of mid-20th-century artistic innovation, seamlessly blending geometric abstraction with the natural inspiration of Cornwall’s rugged coastline. The dynamic interplay of bold lines, vibrant colors, and layered textures evokes a sense of movement and energy, characteristic of the St. Ives School’s avant-garde approach to landscape representation. The composition invites contemplation, drawing the viewer into a world where the boundaries between realism and abstraction dissolve. For art collectors, this piece represents a rare opportunity to own a work from one of Britain’s most influential artistic movements. The St. Ives School was renowned for its experimental spirit, combining elements of European modernism with a distinctly British sensibility. This painting’s bold, modern aesthetic and rich historical context make it a valuable addition to any serious collection of abstract or British art. Interior designers will find this artwork to be an extraordinary statement piece. Its vibrant palette and bold composition bring energy and sophistication to contemporary interiors, while its connection to the natural world ensures it remains harmonious in more traditional settings. Whether displayed in a modern living space or a minimalist gallery wall, this painting commands attention and sparks conversation. For those who appreciate the pioneering spirit of abstract art, this St. Ives School piece is more than a painting—it is a celebration of innovation and the enduring allure of the British landscape. Abstract expressionist sea, shore, landscape scene with white, blue and orange
By Claude Howard Stuart
Located in Woodbury, CT
English Abstract expressionist Seascape, shore, and landscape, in Blue, Red, white, and Orange tones, A wonderful abstract expressionist scene depicting the sun setting over the sea. Stuart is an English painter who spends his time between American and the UK. He paints in different mediums depending on the subject he's paintings. This is an exceptional example of his latest abstract work. Before any paint is applied Stuart lays a thin coat of a clay-like substance, this he then scratches and drawers into. After that layer dries he paints many coats of paint that are applied and then removed giving the piece a unique effect and style. He has been influenced by the works of Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Franz Kline, Lee Krasner, James Brooks, Albert Kotin...

Contemporary British Abstract Landscape Framed Oil Painting - Urban Landscape
Located in Bristol, GB
URBAN LANDSCAPE Size: 38.5 x 53.5 cm (including frame) Oil on board A brilliantly executed semi- abstract landscape composition, painted in oil onto board by contemporary British artist Ian Mood. The artist works in broad, expressive strokes, filling in the urban scene with a cacophony of colour. We see areas of the canvas as well as the artist’s outlines, giving it a very raw quality, emphasising the uncompromising nature of the urban landscape. This oil on board is housed in a complementary light blue frame with an inner white window that pairs wonderfully with the painting. Both painting and frame are in excellent condition. About the artist: Ian Mood is a contemporary artist with an international reputation, having shown work with Saatchi London, Brooklyn Art Library, Battersea Art Fair & Manchester Art Fair – as well as being represented by numerous established galleries in the UK and US. He recently held his first solo show in New York. In 2019, he collaborated as artist in residence with The National Theatre (Madness of George III with Mark Gatiss) and The Royal Exchange Manchester (Mother Courage with Julie Hesmondhalgh). Ian is a member of Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, Society Of Staffordshire Artists and the Artist Association of Nantucket (USA) where he regularly lectures as part of their summer arts programme. He was awarded the Artists Association of Nantucket Frank Swift Chase...

Mid 20th Century Cornish Abstract gouache painting by William Black 'Landscape'
Located in Petworth, West Sussex
William Black (British, Fl. 1963 – 69) Landscape abstraction Watercolour and ink on paper Signed, inscribed and dated ‘Landscape abstraction William Black 63’ (lower edge) 8 x 11.1/4 in. (20.3 x 28.3 cm.) William Black is a little known and underrated member of the St Ives artist group who, having worked as an architect after the Second World War, went on to work as an artist following the inheritance of money in the early 1950s. He was a self taught artist, producing numerous deconstructivist sculptures in the 1960s. He moved to St Ives in Cornwall where he knew artists such as Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth and Naum Gabo. There is a clear architectural element to the sculptures that he made . They illustrate an assemblage of fragmented shapes and forms of a deconstructivist nature. William Black’s artwork is very much rooted in the time and Cornish School so one can see elements from those such as Wilhelmina Barns Graham...
