"The Climb (P1267)" is a Post War abstract oil on panel painting by Hans Hofmann in 1960. The artwork is 84 x 47 1/2 inches and 85 x 48 3/4 x 2 inches with the frame, weighing less than 50 lbs. It is signed lower right, "Hans Hofmann 60" and inscribed verso, "Cat. #1463 the climb 84 x 48 1960 hans hofmann". Hofmann played a pivotal role in the development of Abstract Expressionism and is one of the most important figures of Post War American art. His masterful use of space and composition draws the eye upward, evoking the feeling of an exhilarating journey. "The Climb" stands as a testament to the artist’s belief in the emotional power of abstraction through a sense of movement and its bold, sweeping brushstrokes and layered textures.
