About the Item
In this work by Laurie Barmore, the artist's hand is exceedingly present. Using strong strokes of black and pink creates its own essences of form atop washes of whites and yellows. Spilling between and binding fore and background, the artist creates various line qualities through scratching back into the face of the painting itself. Together, the use of hand and manipulation of line captures electric energy and quality of movement in the multidirectional spaces it creates. Also incorporating collaged journal pages, asemic writing on vellum or rice paper, and cutout script shapes these works marry personal text with visual expression. This piece is well suited for any bright room on its own or juxtaposed within a space of maximal design.
From the artist: “This series of mixed media paintings was created around the premise that our stories (the personal experiences, relationships, challenges, failures, successes) and the emotions tied to them are instrumental in our growth as humans. They change us in incremental non-linear ways on our journey towards our best selves. Each painting is an invitation to explore your own past stories and their influence on you today, and to celebrate the good, the challenging, and even what you’ve overcome along the way."

Sublime 2154 - Original Urban Landscape Photographic Collage Artwork
By Tae Ho Kang
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. His architectural urban scenes are flattened, with everything pressed against the surface of the artwork. At times, multiple views of the same houses are visible, trees and bushes are vaguely alluded to, and the color palette finds a hectic balance. Just as a city operates in a balance of chaos and the sublime, so do the artworks of Kang.
The Sublime is a euphoria that affects the deep recesses of one’s consciousness. As is this experience of the sublime, Kang's work is largely abstract. This large colorful artwork is 39 inches high by 59 inches wide. The sides of this textured, original mixed-media artwork are painted and it does not require framing. It is hand-signed and dated by the artist on front left corner. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and worldwide shipping also available. Provenance: Artspace Warehouse. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape.
About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.”
His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. His artworks have been exhibited and acquired by private collectors around the world.
