About the Artist:
Born in Tokyo in 1944, Tetsuo Mizu was drawn to art by the admiration of Modigliani, and started studying art at Musashino Art Academy in 1971.
He has held several solo exhibitions in Japan, The Netherlands and Italy among others.
In his most well-renown series (of which the current artwork is an example), the Flag series, Mizu embeds in his paintings the alphabet of maritime signal flags, used by ships to communicate between them in the open seas.
His bright primary colors and geometric shapes convey joyful memories of his permanence along the Mediterranean Sea.
