About the Item
"We are all one (recurring thought of a fugitive soul) animal figurative magic” Painting 24" x 19" inch by Ion Xiua. Mixed technique. Oil on canvas made with professional Winsor & Newton colors protected with gloss varnish with UV protection. It is sent rolled and protected in a tube with a certificate of authenticity.
Everything is connected, the visible and the invisible.
I was born in Zipaquirá (Colombia), the city where the famous salt cathedral is located, I live and work in Bogotá. I studied contemporary art at the Javeriana University and painting at the National University of Colombia. Student in the studio of the Peruvian painter Armando Villegas (RIP).
South America is the starting point of my work, its unpredictable sky, its mysterious, indomitable and magical nature, its animals and the men who travel through it. The pre-Hispanic artistic tradition and the postulates of Constructive Universalism are also present, with the ambition of creating an art from the local but with a universal scope: "Our north is the south" (Joaquín Torres García)
My work seeks totality, where the abstract and the representative coexist in harmony, simultaneously and intermingled. In abstract painting I explore the relationship and balance between shapes and color blocks, recalling the orthogonals and walls of Inca constructions and also the warp and weft of the fabric of pre-Hispanic cultures.
In the figuration present in my painting, I explore the defenselessness of the contemporary human being before the digital world and hyperconnected to social networks, which in most of us generates a deep loneliness and emptiness. The presence of animals is a balm for our existence, I want us to remember that we are one more of them and in our condition we are obliged to respect, dignify and love them as sacred creatures to whom we owe ourselves.
As a form of resistance to the speed of the contemporary world, the processes of my painting are slow, I transform the matter slowly, little by little, layer after layer until I create worlds where colors, textures and fantastic beings inhabit.
