"Princess Champaign Poppy" Contemporary Mixed Media Floral Painting on Canvas
Located in New York, NY
This painting by Antoinette is a stylish and luxurious mixed media on canvas piece depicting abstract floral shapes with bold use of color and contrast. The Silver Leaf background allows for the luminosity to shine through effortlessly, as the lines and intricate details of the silk paper laid over paint and mixed media add a most interesting texture. The artist's hand embellishes with free fall paint dripping to add elegant accents. This painting comes housed in a natural oak floater frame with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 31.5 x 31.5 inches Frame measures 33 x 33 inches Antoinette Ferwerda is a renowned Australian artist largely recognized for producing a bold collection of fine artwork that joyfully explores the geometry of shape and the changing light from dusk to dawn. Championing her love for shape, reflection, and nature using a diverse pallet of mixed media to portray her abstract interpretations of nature. Antoinette's diverse past and a childhood that was somewhat nomadic has inspired much of her work today. Antoinette’s backstory reads like something out of an adventure series, having spent her early days living in remote pockets of Papua New Guinea, where she was lucky to spend time in a seaside shack on Ela Beach in Port Moresby, as well as the volcanic town of Rabaul, the Cargo Port Lae, before moving on to Darwin where her Dad worked for the Red Cross and helped with the re-build process after Cyclone Tracy. This was followed by a family stint in Europe, visiting Netherlands, London, Belgium, France, Italy, and Switzerland, before finally settling back in Melbourne for her formative years. Her love for nature and exploring the patterns and relationships she finds within started early. “I’ve been forever fascinated with color and the magical interplay of light”. “Blessed to have a teacher Mum who fostered regular creative time during our nomadic stint, my childhood was largely spent creating, especially outdoors”. Never without a pen, sketchbook or scraps of paper, her natural ability to create in layers instinctively started in these early years. Although her work continues to evolve, she consistently creates works that are rich in layers, resulting in pieces that are optimistic, luminous and full of stories from her colorful life. Her signature work is abundant with color and texture, resulting in a transparent quality of her works. Adaptable to any palette, Antoinette has produced works from a diversity of spectrums and mediums – sun-soaked, muted and ethereal, vibrant, as well as monochromatic with accents of gold. Her themes include abstract and metaphysical interpretations of fossicking in rock pools, exploring the rolling hills of the countryside both here and abroad, the rock formations of the Australian outback and the magical light of a European summer to name just a few. Her dream and longing to become an artist became a reality after starting her own family and farewelling a corporate life in the pharmaceutical industry, with her debut solo exhibition in 2014. Six years on, Antoinette has fast become a firm favorite amongst interior designers, stylists and home decorators alike, having been represented by fenton&fenton, Thom Gallery and Trit House (formally Click On Furniture) to name just a few. Continually experimenting and evolving as an artist, Antoinette invites the viewer to look deeper through surface layers to find hidden stories of color and form. Past collections have been inspired by visits to the bustling markets of India, the morning light outside her childhood beach shack...

A minimal wood frame blue colored is included 44 x 3 x 44 cm Good conditions. This original painting is realized witha a vivid silver acrylic paint on canvas and presents two cuts on its surface. The painting consists in only one homogeneous vivid color. The cuts are mended with twine, like stitches do for healing wounds. Tulips Against Blue Amy Christie, Affordable Bright Still Life Contemporary Art
Located in Deddington, GB
Tulips Against Blue Original Still Life Painting Mixed-Media on Canvas Canvas size Size: 40 x 40 cm Framed size: 44 x 44 cm Framed in a White Wooden Hand Painted Tray Frame Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. Tulips Against Blue is an original mixed-media painting by Amy Christie. Painted in bright, vibrant colours with acrylics and mixed-media to achieve a textured surface on the canvas. Amy has used silverleaf on many parts of the composition plus a metallic glaze to highlight certain areas. The silverleaf and shimmering glaze catch the light beautifully, so this is a piece of artwork that changes depending on the time of day, the light in the room and the direction from which the painting is viewed… artwork that literally changes before your eyes. I’m a North-Norfolk based painter inspired by the joy and vibrancy of flowers. They are a great vehicle for colour and I thoroughly enjoy selecting, mixing and working into my paints to create a piece that sings. I aim to uplift the viewer with my artwork and feel that I have succeeded in my work if I bring about a smile, a feeling of peace or a moment where all that matters is the beauty of colour and form. I work in acrylics and use textures and glazes with multiple layers of colour to create interesting and exciting effects. Paint is partially removed and pulled back to reveal hidden colours and I often adorn the painting with gold- or silver-leaf to illuminate it even further. I also use antique wooden printing blocks...

Birches VI: Minimalist Landscape Painting of Birch Trees on Dark Silver
Located in Hudson, NY
Minimalist landscape painting of white Birch tree branches on a dark silver surface Birches VI, painted by Frank Faulkner in 2012 36" X 30" Acrylic on Canvas Wire backing for secure installation Signed, verso The Birch Tree paintings are an elegant and sophisticated body of work painted by Frank Faulkner in 2010-2012. White birch branches are contrasted by a dark ground that transitions from black to steel gray. The Birch Tree is the symbol of new beginnings, regeneration, hope, new dawns and the promise of what is to come. The tree carries ancient wisdom and yet appears forever young. An impasto relief is created using acrylic paint on wood panel, in an abstract, almost bead like design. The minimalist landscape is completed on canvas and is signed by the artist on the back. More about the artist: Born in Sumter, South Carolina in 1946, Frank Faulkner received his B.F.A. from the University of North Carolina in 1968, Phi Beta Kappa, and his M.F.A. from the same institution in 1972. Faulkner’s work quickly won him numerous grants and awards, including an individual artist grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1974. He was selected for the Whitney Biennial in 1975, which prompted him to settle in New York. There, he came to the attention of Dorothy Miller, Curator Emeritus of the Museum of Modern Art with a legendary eye for new talent. Since then, Faulkner has continued to garner acclaim and awards. He has been featured in dozens of one-person exhibitions (not to mention group exhibitions) in this country, as well as in Japan, Switzerland, and Germany. Birches IX: Minimalist Landscape Painting of Birch Trees on Dark Silver
Located in Hudson, NY
Minimalist landscape painting of white Birch tree branches on a dark gradient silver surface Birches IX, painted by Frank Faulkner in 2012 36 x 30 inches Wire backing for secure installation Signed, verso The Birch Tree paintings are an elegant and sophisticated body of work painted by Frank Faulkner in 2010-2012. White birch branches are contrasted by a dark metallic surface that transitions from midnight blue to steel gray. The Birch Tree is the symbol of new beginnings, regeneration, hope, new dawns and the promise of what is to come. The tree carries ancient wisdom and yet appears forever young. An impasto, almost bead-like relief is created using acrylic paint and creates an interesting abstract juxtaposition with the representational foreground. Shop Abstract, Landscape, Figurative and Still-Life Paintings

Painting is an art form that has spanned innumerable cultures, with artists using the medium to tell stories, explore and communicate ideas and express themselves. To bring abstract, landscape and still-life paintings into your home is to celebrate and share in the long tradition of this discipline.

When we look at paintings, particularly those that originated in the past, we learn about history, other cultures and countries of the world. Like every other work of art, paintings — whether they are contemporary creations or works that were made during the 19th century — can often help us clearly see and understand the world around us in a meaningful and interesting way.

Cave walls were the canvases for what were arguably the world’s first landscape paintings, which depict natural scenery through art. Portrait paintings and drawings, which, along with sculpture, were how someone’s appearance was recorded prior to the advent of photography, are at least as old as Ancient Egypt. In the Netherlands, landscapes were a major theme for painters as early as the 1500s. Later, artists in Greece, Rome and elsewhere created vast wall paintings to decorate stately homes, churches and tombs. Today, creating a wall of art is a wonderful way to enhance your space, showcase beautiful pieces and tie an interior design together.

No matter your preference, whether you favor Post-Impressionist paintings, animal paintings, Surrealism, Pop art or another movement or specific period, arranging art on a blank wall allows you to evoke emotions in a room while also showing off your tastes and interests. A symmetrical wall arrangement may comprise a grid of four to six pieces or, for an odd number of works, a horizontal row. Asymmetrical arrangements, which may be small clusters of art or large, salon-style gallery walls, have a more collected and eclectic feel. Download the 1stDibs app, which includes a handy “View on Wall” feature that allows you to see how a particular artwork will look on a particular wall, and read about how to arrange wall art. And if you’re searching for the perfect palette for your interior design project, what better place to turn than to the art world’s masters of color?

On 1stDibs, you’ll find an expansive collection of paintings and other fine art for your home or office. Browse abstract paintings, portrait paintings, paintings by popular artists and more today.
