This artwork titled "September" 1976, is an oil painting on hardboard by Swedish/American artist Carlo Wahlbeck, b.1933. It is signed at the lower left corner by the artist, also signed, dated and titled on the back. The artwork size is 10 x 20 inches, framed size is 17.5 x 27.5 inches. Framed in a dark wood frame, with fabric liner and brown bevel. It is in excellent condition, the frame have minor restorations barely visible. About the artist: Carlo Wahlbeck was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1933. His studies from early youth included travel and visits to major museums in Europe. During a visit to the United States, Carlo was introduced to the Native American Indian and the rich history of the American West. He moved to Southern California in 1960 and still calls it home today. Between 1960 and today, Carlo has traveled throughout the Southwestern United States and Mexico. For many years, he lived among the Navajo and Zunis, painting a great many surreal works that embodied their legends and outlook. He also spent 2 years in Mexico living among the Huichol people in the inaccessible mountains north of Tepic, painting the Indian religion and the white man's religion as seen through Huichol eyes. Between 1979 and today, he mastered the technique and came to control it, producing a fabulous new medium base for his expressions. The evolvement of his art has show much diversification and his works can be found in prominent private and corporate collections, as well as museums both here in the United States and abroad. His first training in art was in 1969 when he started working with Silvia Gonzalez and later on in the Arcai Atelier in Paris. At 18, he held his first exhibition at the Museo de Arte Moderno of Mexico City and he went on to display his work at the International Biennale of the Bronx Museum in New York City. He grew up around the Mer Kup Gallery, run by his maternal grandmother, Merl de Kuper, where he presented his work in several group exhibitions and three solo shows (1979, 1981, and 1985). She was a champion of many important mexican modernist artists including artists like Pedro friedeberg, Feliciano Bejar, Mathias Goeritz, Diego Rivera, Sebastián, and José Luis Cuevas.Moises Zabludovsky exhibited at the National Center for the Arts in 2011 and at the Museo El Eco of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He has exhibited paintings and sculptures at the Museum of Modern Art, the Jose Luis Cuevas Museum, Metropolitana in Mexico City. He has successful shows at prominent art galleries like the Miro Gallery in Monterrey, Palacio de Bellas Artes and Museo Carrillo Gil in Mexico City. He also had some international shows in Florida and Latin America. In 1982 he was awarded a degree in graphic design from Parsons University. He has received numerous awards and exhibited widely since the early 1990's. He is known both for his oil painting as well as for his ceramic and bronze bullfighting sculpture. In 1978, he received an honorable mention at the First Ibero-American Painting Biennial, where Carlos Merida and Rufino Tamayo were on the jury. He was part of the Emerging Decade generation whose members participated in the exhibitions bearing that name at the Museo Universitario del Chopo in 1984 and 1994, the latter titled An Emerging Decade, a Decade Later . He also participated in the Salón dès Aztecs, a renowned alternative space for Mexican art In the show Nuevas tendencias (New Trends) at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City. That same year, he also exhibited at the International Biennial at the Bronx Museum in New York. He continued his studies at the Metropolitan University of Mexico City and simultaneously exhibited at various galleries and museums: the Mer-Kup Gallery and the Miró Gallery in Monterrey, Nuevo León; the Palacio de Bellas Artes; the Carrillo Gil Art Museum; and, outside the country, in Florida and at the Traveling Young Art Exhibition organized by the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. as well as in art galleries in Mexico and the United States. His father was the famous professor and architect Abraham Zabludovsky known for his brutalist architecture masterpieces among them the iconic Museo Rufino Tamayo. His work is featured in two buildings designed by his father, Abraham Zabludovsky (1924-2003): the Byzantine mosaic mural 'The Applause' in the Guanajuato State Auditorium (1990) and the sculpture 'The Caravan' in the Poliforum, Auditorium and Convention Center in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas (1993). Provenance: Hamilton Gallery of Contemporary Art, New York David Hare (1917 – 1992) was an American artist, associated with the Surrealist movement. He is primarily known for his sculpture, though he also worked extensively in photography and oil painting. The VVV Surrealism Magazine was first published and edited by Hare in 1942. Born March 10, 1917 in New York City, New York to father Meredith Hare, a lawyer and mother Elizabeth Sage Goodwin, an art collector. In the 1920s the family moved first to Santa Fe, New Mexico and later to Colorado Springs, Colorado, in hope that the fresh air would help heal Meredith Hare's tuberculosis. His mother founded the Fountain Valley School, where David attended high school. After high school Hare married and moved to Roxbury, Connecticut where he worked as a color photographer. He attended Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson from 1936 to 1937, studying biology and chemistry. In the late 1930s, with no previous artistic training, he began to experiment with color photography. Using his previous education in chemistry Hare developed an automatist technique called "heatage" in which he heated the unfixed negative from an 8 by 10-inch plate, causing the image to ripple and distort. Hare's Surrealist experiments in photography were only one of his many projects. In 1938 he met Susanna Winslow Wilson and the couple soon married. Both David and Susanna pursued their interests in Surrealism and regularly attended Surrealist gatherings in New York Larre French restaurant on 56th street and at Breton's Greenwich Village apartment. In 1940 he received a commission from the American Museum of Natural History to document the Pueblo Indians of the American Southwest, for which he eventually produced 20 prints developed using Eastman Kodak's then-new dye transfer process (a time-consuming and complicated technique). In the same year, he also opened his own commercial photography studio in New York City and exhibited his photographs in a solo show at the Julien Levy Gallery. In the next few years, through his cousin the painter Kay Sage, he came into contact with a number of Surrealist artists who had fled their native Europe because of World War II. Hare became closely involved with the émigré Surrealist movement and collaborated closely with them on projects such as the Surrealist journal VVV, which he co founded and edited from 1941 to 1944 with André Breton, Max Ernst, and Marcel Duchamp. With numerous illustrations by Breton, Leonora Carrington, Marc Chagall, Roberto Matta, Giorgio de Chirico, MarcelDuchamp, Max Ernst, Andre Masson, Joan Miro, Enrico Donati, Dorothea Tanning, and others. Published in only four issues between 1942-44, VVV was an experimental New York-based magazine devoted to the dissemination of Surrealism.
