This artwork titled "Der Fluss Rhein (Rhine River)" 1950, is an oil painting on canvas by German artist Adolf Gerhard, 1910-1973. It is signed and dated at the lower left corner by the artist. The canvas size is 23.75 x 31.5 inches, framed size is 27.75 x 35.5 inches. Framed in original wooden gold an grey frame. It is in excellent condition, especially considering the age, the canvas have a few wrinkles at the lower right corner, see picture #1.
About the artist:
Adolf Gerhard, 1910 - 1975, studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Mainz from 1926 to 1932; from 1940-44 he studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, since 1947 freelance artist in Mainz.
The work of impressionist artist Adolf Gerhard is held in numerous private collections through Germany and Europe.
