About the Item

Albert Eugène LECHAT (Lille 1863 – Berck sur Mer 1918) The crier's shop in Arras Watercolour, pencil and gouache highlights H. 22 cm; W. 27.5 cm Signed lower right. Exhibition labels on the back. Original hammered and embossed copper frame Exhibitions: - Tourcoing, Palais des Beaux-Arts, date unknown - Galerie Georges Petit, 26 April to 10 May 1907, no. 67, titled "The second-hand dealer's shop" Albert Lechat, a painter from the north of France, mainly depicted the landscapes of his region and the towns he passed through. In this way, we find views of Montreuil-sur-Mer, seascapes, views of Berck and of course Arras like our work. The technique of gouache watercolor, very pure and which preserves all its light over time, allows our small work to immerse us in the beginning of the 20th century. This shop is that of a second-hand dealer and auctioneer in the city of Arras. Through the window can be seen clocks, candelabras, and other old objects. The gouache is preserved in its original frame in copper, embossed, hammered, typical of the Art Nouveau period and in perfect condition.
