A contemporary oil painting that resembles an early renaissance mural. Old masters throughout Art History come to mind, like Hieronymus Bosch, Jan Van Eyck, or Pieter Bruegel. Gordon depicts the "Strangled Planet" we live in: war, protests, and unrest abounds. At the same time, exploration, cooperation, and humanity persists. She uses European Medieval, Renaissance, and Neoclassical references around the main contemporary action. This is perhaps a reference to the uncertainty that is inherent in life—hardships as well as victories have always been depicted in grand compositions. The skeletons that climb, cling, and swing on either side of the painting are the reminders of this finite life. Artist Bio Kristy Gordon’s work is a frank and intimate reflection of her curiosity about other people, transformations and self-discovery. Her paintings hang in over 500 public and private collections worldwide including the Government of Ontario Art Collection. She has been a full-time, professional painter since 2004, exhibiting her work internationally and earning numerous awards including the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant (2010, 2013), an Exceptional Merit Award from the Portrait Society of America (2014), and was a finalist for the 2013 Kingston Prize for Canadian portraiture. She has been widely featured in numerous magazines, art publications, radio and television shows, including International Artist, Fine Art Connoisseur, The Artist’s Magazine, Southwest Art and Bravo!’s Star Portraits. Gordon has seven years of experience teaching and conducting painting workshops throughout North America. She has taught at numerous academies and schools including The Academy of Realist Art Ottawa, The Lake Country Art House, and The Okanagan School of Arts in Penticton and has also substitute taught at the New York Academy of Art. She has lectured at China Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, New Century Artists in New York City and the Art of the Portrait in Washington, DC. She received her MFA degree in Painting from the New York Academy of Art and holds a BFA in Drawing and Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design. Additionally, she has studied classical drawing and painting at the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto and Andreeva Portrait Academy in Santa Fe. Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. He later moved to California to study Fine Art at California State University, where he graduated in 1980. Since then, his artworks have focused on the never-ending quest for home and belonging in a dense urban landscape. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. View of the Bergsee is an original modern artwork realized by the Austrian artist and painter Josef Brunner in the middle of the XIX Century. Both the work and the canvas are in very good conditions. Beautiful and intense oil painting depicting the Austrian mountain lake Bergsee. The painting is characterized by a particular play between lights and shadows: the light indeed is distributed in an extremely suffused but homogeneous way on the view but it is also able to create that sense of magic that characterized the whole landscape. The color of the lake therefore assumes a transparency and an iridescent blue that tends to the green and reflects the color of the surrounding mountains. The sky appears full of rainy clouds but they still allow the rays of the last sun to shine on. The general vision conveys calm and tranquility thanks also to the refined use of color and the play of lights and shadows, the turquoise and the pale opaque blue of the lake is perfectly emphasized by the various green tones of the trees. The white, gray and light brown rocky mountains embrace the lake and the cloudy sky in shades of blue increases the feeling of tranquility. The landscape is desolate; the only signs of life are the three fishermen on the shore: they are three small figures painted in different poses and illuminated by the light too. The surface of the water reflects in a spectacular way the surrounding landscape, it is similar to the surface of a mirror. The style, fantastic and almost dreamy, is into the full Germanic Romanticism. Mindful of Caspar David Friedrich's memoirs (Greifswald, 1774 - Dresda, 1840), the author certainly took his cue from the style of the German and the Austrian Romanticism; tangible signs of Romantic painting are the choice of the subject, an uncontaminated Nordic landscape, and the almost fairytale atmosphere that we find in the composition.
