Cheryl Petty (American, 1949) (nee West) was raised in Southern California and moved to Los Angeles in 1967 to attend UCLA where she received her BA in painting. Petty was heavily involved in the Downtown Los Angeles art scene before relocating to Dunsmuir, California in 1992. Works from this period were shown at the Siskiyou Art Museum in Dunsmuir in September 2015.
She continued to explore art, stimulated by the beautiful location in the Sacramento River canyon at the base of Mt. Shasta, and opened a gallery at the Window Box Nursery where she sold her landscape paintings and bonsai.
As an artist and writer, Petty mastered story telling with plein air depictions of rural town life before gaining recognition as a journalist and user experience expert. Under the pseudonym Sha Li she has published three novels and is completing a fourth.
