About the Item
Oil on Canvas. Signed " Schütz fecit" on the ruin to the right of the shepherdess.
Christian Georg Schütz the Elder captures an idyllic, serene landscape crossed by a meandering, slow-moving river; a few architectural ruins of classical structures stand on the right bank, while in the foreground, sitting in the center, serene and composed, a shepherdess spins wool while overseeing his small flock of baby goats and cows.
The painting is a hymn to nature, where the naturalistic elements, the earth, the sky, and the river come together to form a harmonious and balanced scene, bathed in rosy light, in which living figures and architectural remains fit in with balance and calmness.
Schütz mainly made river views of the Rhine and Main, places he lived, and worked for important German patrons, nobles and prelates.
The painting has participated in several art auctions.
Restored and retested, is presented in styled frame.
