About the Item
Gorgeous alpine landscape, rich with figures, architecture on various perspectives and a central fountain with bocce players.Oil painting on canvas is signed and dated lower right Ed.Cohen 1866 Weimer.
The characters in the foreground, involved in a game of bocce ball, mingle with other figures engaged in performing everyday actions. All set in a mountainous landscape with glimpses of villages clinging to hills, pleasant and warm homes, and fountains that remind us of the hub of a country. Contrasting the clear sky, from the various shades of blue-white the dark and deep green of the vegetation.
Edvard Cohen, (Hanover 1838 - Frankfurt am Main 1910), Hanover landscape painter, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and Dresden.
This antique mountain landscape is presented within elaborate French gilded pastille frame; it is in excellent condition, lined and comes from a private Lombard mansion.
