Ernst Liebermann (1869 – 1960)
è stato un pittore, grafico e illustratore tedesco.
Nel 1893 vinse la medaglia d'oro ("den grossen Schulpreis") dell'Accademia di Berlino. Durante i suoi studi viaggiò attraverso la Germania, l'Olanda, l'Italia e la Francia. Dal 1897 lavorò a Monaco come illustratore di libri e riviste. Inizialmente realizzò litografie di città e paesaggi, successivamente iniziò a dipingere. A
nei decenni successivi seguiranno numerose esposizioni delle sue opere al Glaspalast. Nel 1907 gli fu conferito il titolo di professore.

Liebermann Fu uno dei pittori preferiti di Hitler .
Nell'ultima fase della guerra Liebermann fu inserito nella Gottbegnadeten-Liste come uno dei pittori più importanti. Nel 1943 l'atelier Liebermann di Monaco venne bombardato e numerose delle sue opere andarono distrutte.
Ernst Liebermann morì nel 1960 a Beuerberg, in Baviera.

Tonalist are usually intimate works, painted with a limited palette. Tonalist paintings are softly expressive, suggestive rather than detailed, often depicting the landscape at twilight or evening, when there is an absence of contrast. Tonalist paintings could also be figurative, but in them, the figure was usually out of doors or in an interior in a low-key setting with little detail.

John Fabian Carlson was born in Kolsebo in Västervik Municipality, Kalmar County, in Småland, Sweden. The Carlson family immigrated to the United States in 1884, making their home in Buffalo, New York. Carlson attended evening art classes at the Art Students League of Buffalo, New York. There Carlson received instruction from Lucius Wolcott Hitchcock, a former pupil at the Académie Colarossi in Paris and the Art Students League of New York.
