About the Item
This superb, large Scottish Impressionist exhibited landscape oil painting is by noted artist Joseph Morris Henderson. It was painted in 1923 and exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art that year. The location is Balquhidder in Scotland, a small village in Perthshire located 10 miles north-west of Callander. The view is from the bank looking up stream with silver birches to the right and hills giving way to pine trees and mountains beyond. The Scottish Impressionistic brushwork and impasto are just lovely. This is a superb example of Henderson's work with a known location and excellent provenance.

Provenance. Exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art in 1923, catalogue no. 309 entitled A Moorland Stream Balquhidder.

Condition. Oil on canvas. Image size 40 inches by 30 inches and in excellent gallery condition.
Housed in a stunning gallery frame, 48 by 38 inches framed. Excellent condition.
Joseph Morris Henderson (1863-1936) was born in Glasgow, son of the artist Joseph Henderson by whom he was strongly influenced. Studied at Glasgow University and Glasgow School of Art. His style absorbed much from romantic Victorian realism, and he dedicated himself to landscapes, seascapes and coastal scenes. He exhibited throughout his life primarily in Scotland. He was elected an Associate member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1928 and a full member in 1935.
