Stunning textural abstract aerial landscape painting by Hungarian artist Levente Baranyai. Oil on panel, 37.5 x 50 inches.
With a focus on aerial urban and rural landscapes, Levente Baranyai's compositions are invariably large, painted with thick, sculpted layers of oil paint. His painted translations of sourced photographic images show a kind of physical relation not so much to the photographs on which they are based, but rather to the object, the very physicality of the landscape itself. In Baranyai's paintings, the depicted landscape and buildings are reconstituted and invested with a physical existence and perspective. He achieves this even while preserving a degree of faithfulness to the original photographic image. The painting's rustic texture transforms the piece into a three-dimensional relief-like structure projecting from the plane of the canvas.
