City Glow: Cityscape Oil Painting of New York City in Pastel Palette
Located in Hudson, NY
Contemporary cityscape painting of New York City skyline with a light blue and green palette “City Glow”, painted by Patty Neal in 2019 18 x 18 inches on wood panel Wire backing, artist signature located in lower right corner This contemporary oil painting depicting a metropolitan view of New York City was painted by Brooklyn based artist, Patty Neal. Made with gestural impressionistic brushstrokes, this painting offers a view of the Manhattan skyline on a bridge through the window of a passing car. The mint green infastructure compliments the dusty blue and sandy oranges of the city in the background. This piece is traditional of Neal’s work which commonly highlights everyday city scenes, utilitarian infrastructure, and industrial or electrical apparatus. The cityscape scene is completed on wood panel with white painted sides. Artist statement: A life is an accumulation of experiences: visual, emotional and mental. By compartmentalizing these snippets of life we create boundaries. The focus of my work for many years has been the exploration of these various life aspects and how they are bound together or bound from each other. My process is often literally composed of boundaries. I make a painting by putting together multiple panels, or I segment a single panel into separate visual spaces. The works are made up of pieces or elements of city and landscape. While exploring the concepts of boundaries I play with visual “reality.” Sometimes I combine images that are upside down with those that are not and juxtapose images from different contexts. Literal boundaries, such as walls fences, expanses of water and highway median strips are also used. My intent is to invite viewers to look beyond these boundaries to see the possibilities of a connected whole. About the artist: Solo Exhibitions 2011 "Interior/Exterior", Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, New York 2008 ”Landscape Revisited”, 1870 Gallery, Belmont 2005 Nomad Rug Gallery, San Francisco 2004 "Landscapes"@Klein's, San Francisco 2004 "Landscape Renewed," Space 743, San Francisco 2003 Exploding Head...

oil on panel MARTHA MANS A master realist painter, she was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she attended Carlow University and received a degree in art and art education. Later she studied art at the Maryland Institute College of Art and the University of Southern California. At the beginning of her career she worked as an art teacher and art department head in Maryland and California. After becoming a full-time artist she taught watercolor and oil painting workshops in the United States and abroad. After moving to Colorado she became a master instructor for a branch of the Art Student’s League in Colorado Springs and then set up her own classes in her studio where she presently teaches on a weekly basis. She was director for many years of large adventure workshops combining painting and exploring. Some of these adventures include Ghost Ranch, New Mexico, where Georgia O’Keefe painted, a yearly excursion on a Clipper Ship in the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas stopping at many ports to paint and an exciting workshop in Salvador, Brazil, painting the colorful region and people there. It was due to these painting trips on which the artists had to carry around all their painting equipment that she put together a compact painting travel kit that she marketed and that many plein air artists use as they travel to their many painting locations. Martha’s work has been featured in many art publications such as: Southwest Art Magazine, Artist’s Magazine, Watercolor Artist’s Magazine and Art Collector’s Magazine. Her work has been used in several books on painting; “Making Your Watercolors Look Professional,” by Carole Katchen, The Best of Watercolor Series, Rockport, Press, “How to Paint Better Watercolor Paintings,” by Jerald Brommer and Jerald Brommer’s Art Education Posters for High Schools. Her work has received many awards in national juried competitions including numerous best of shows awards. Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, New Mexico Watercolor Society, Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain Watercolor Society, Pikes Peak Watercolor...

''The End of the Summer'', Contemporary Dutch Oil Painting of a Landscape
Located in Utrecht, NL
Frank Dekkers (1961) is a landscape painter par excellence. Full of dedication and diligence he always works on location outdoors, defying the elements. The weather plays an important role in his work: an emerging early winter, heavy summer rain, lightning storms and flaming sunsets form endless sources of inspiration. Like 19th century painters as Monet or Renoir he takes his easel, panel and oil paint outside where Frank finds the peace and quiet to create his paintings. Being outside, experiencing the landscape, the passing of the day, is what makes him paint. Dekkers masters many techniques, such as etching, woodcutting, ink drawing and painting in oil. Whatever the technique he uses, his work is always recognizable by his unique signature. He can accurately depict the essence of the landscape, using minimal resources. By reducing his subjects to lines, surfaces, colors and light, he shows us his interpretation of the landscape without it becoming unrecognizable to those who haven’t been there. On the back of every panel Frank notes down the coordinates, the exact spot Frank painted the landscape. Type the coordinates in Google Maps...

American Woman Artist Modernist Large Oil Painting Cubist Influenced Landscape
Located in Surfside, FL
A beautiful wooded landscape scene with houses and trees. Painted on a masonite board. hand signed lower right. with framers label verso. Framed to 40 X 55 inches. 33 X 48 without the frame and mat. It is not dated. Lena Gurr (1897–1992), was an American woman artist who made paintings, prints, and drawings During the course of her career Gurr's compositions retained emotional content as they evolved from a naturalistic to a semi-abstract cubist style. Born into a Russian-Jewish Yiddish speaking immigrant family, she was the wife of Joseph Biel, also Russian-Jewish and an artist of similar genre and sensibility. Gurr used Lena Gurr as her professional name. After marrying Joseph Biel she was sometimes referred to as Lena Gurr Biel. Biel had been born in Grodno, Poland (later absorbed into Russia) and had lived in England, France, and Australia before coming to New York. An artist, he specialized in landscape paintings and silkscreen printing as well as photography. He studied art at the Russian Academy in Paris. After immigrating to the United States, he studied under George Grosz at the Arts Students League. Gurr was born in Brooklyn and, apart from brief stays in Manhattan and in Paris, lived there her whole life. This painting bears the influence of Lyonel Feininger an influential German American artist. Gurr began studying art at a young age. In 1919 she studied painting and printmaking at the Educational Alliance Art School and between 1920 and 1922 she won a scholarship to attend the Art Students League where she took classes with John Sloan and Maurice Sterne. In 1926 and 1928 Gurr participated in group shows at the Whitney Studio Club in Greenwich Village and in 1928 she also participated in the 12th annual exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists at the Waldorf Roof in New York. (Reviewing this show, Helen Appleton Read, the critic for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, said "I made three discoveries on my first visit, Thomas Nagel, Eugenie McEvoy and Lena Gurr with two figure compositions which have something of Marie Laurencin or Helene Perdriat quality of naive sophistication.") The Waldorf Roof was a set of rooms on the top floor of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, one of which had glass sides and a glass roof. The rooms were used for concerts, dances, benefits, and exhibitions. From 1929 to 1931 Gurr took a leave of absence from her teaching position to travel in France with Joseph Biel, an artist whom she had met while studying at the Art Students League. They spent time in Nice and Mentone but mainly in Paris. During the early months of 1931, while she was still abroad, her work appeared in group exhibitions held at the R. H. Macy department store and the Opportunity Gallery (opened by Gifford Beal). In 1932 she participated in three shows: a solo exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, an annual exhibition of the New York Society of Women Artists, ( Its first president was Marguerite Zorach. Founding members included Agnes Weinrich, Anne Goldthwaite...
