BLUE MAGNETIC
Located in New York, NY
BLUE MAGNETIC 41" x 48", $12,000 About this Artwork: Magnetism and light are both mysterious, The universe is saturated in this dynamic phenomenon. The word dynamic means a force that stimulates change or progress within a system or process. When two magnetic energy sources approach each other, they repel, attract and interact. There is a positive -negative geometric logic we can see and manipulate readliy, but we are still in the dark as to how and why it happens at all. About the Series: For Dray, Philosophy deals in the abstract and abstraction is an indispensable tool in art and culture. Through his paintings, he reasserts that abstraction has been a part of humanity, all cultures in all ages. It’s an indispensable tool, as we create symbols, vessels to fill with allusions and messages. The resulting artwork have a strong sense of purpose. Each painting contains hundreds of hand coloured trapezoid shapes, hand drawn with a sharp blade onto silver or gold leaf. Each coloured shape can be interpreted to represent an ‘atomic’ element. On its own a block of colour is insignificant but seen as part of a whole it becomes dynamic and alive reflecting on how nature works. The phenomena of light is also important to the work. The light of the sun in a room illuminates and reflects off the paintings as they come alive and change through time. About the Artist: Benjamin Dray is an artist based in Sydney, Australia. He completed his formal art education in Australia and has painted continuously for the last 30 years living and working in his studio home on Scotland Island...

"Topo" - Contemporary Abstract Painting - colorful - aerial landscape - gold
Located in Atlanta, GA
"Topo" is an abstract landscape painting featuring blue and green hues. Kate Hooray Osmond is inspired by the work of Hilma af Klint and Damien Hirst. “My series of paintings deal with sensation and ultra-color,” Kate explains. “I am considering the concepts of over-consciousness, Horror Vacui and the overlap between joy and terror. In visual art, “horror vacui” (from Latin “fear of empty space”), also kenophobia (from Greek “fear of the empty”), is the filling of the entire surface of a space or an artwork with detail. For this series titled “Gold,” each piece is influenced by a topic of consideration: technology, super-nature, genetics, pharmaceuticals, perception. As Kate studies and meditates on these subjects, her path of investigation grows more and more intense until she teeters between becoming overwhelmed by fear for our future and a euphoria filled with hope and intention. “I feel so much life that I am paralyzed by it, and I am confounded by how sensation and numbness can blend together,” says Kate. “All that glitters is Gold.” Born in 1983, Kate Hooray Osmond earned her MFA in Studio Art from...

Persian Illuminated Miniature with Two Figures Hunting in a Landscape
Located in Milwaukee, WI
The present illuminated page was once part of a larger manuscript, as evidenced by the tears along the right edge, illustrating a story from the Islamic world. The scene presents two figures in a landscape, one on horseback and another gesturing to a fallen deer. The stylization of the landscape shows influence from the Byzantine tradition of painting, with jagged rocks jutting into a golden sky. The page contains handwritten text on both sides, and is surrounded by gold illustrations of peacocks and a running deer. 11 x 6.5 inches, artwork 18.63 x 14 inches, frame accompanied on the back with an image of the verso framed to conservation standards with a 100% rag silk-lined mat in a gold gilded frame A Persian miniature is a small Persian painting on paper, whether a book illustration or a separate work of art intended to be kept in an album of such works called a muraqqa. The techniques are broadly comparable to the Western and Byzantine traditions of miniatures in illuminated manuscripts. Although there is an equally well-established Persian tradition of wall-painting, the survival rate and state of preservation of miniatures is better, and miniatures are much the best-known form of Persian painting in the West, and many of the most important examples are in Western, or Turkish, museums. Miniature painting became a significant genre in Persian art in the 13th century, receiving Chinese influence after the Mongol conquests, and the highest point in the tradition was reached in the 15th and 16th centuries. The tradition continued, under some Western influence, after this, and has many modern exponents. The Persian miniature was the dominant influence on other Islamic miniature traditions, principally the Ottoman miniature...
