ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:
Pippa Smith is a London based, self-taught artist whose energetic still life paintings are characterised by bold and playful colours, and aim to transport the viewer to the warmth and serenity of the Mediterranean. With a fresh take on the traditional artistic genre of the still life, her works are whimsical and expressive, with a focus predominantly on seafood and the pleasure of the kitchen table. They are a joyful celebration of her Hispanic heritage and her Abuela's excellent cooking.
Having studied History of Art at Edinburgh University, Pippa went on to work in a contemporary gallery as a dealer, but it was the lockdown of 2020 where her true passion for painting flourished and her unique artistic language was born. Now based in London, Pippa continues to create quirky and contemporary works fit for any house, whether a villa in the Med or a country cottage in the Cotswolds.

Throwing Some Shapes I, II, III Triptych, Original Naïve Still Life Painting
Located in Deddington, GB
A series of paintings exploring the dynamic and expressive shapes of pot plants. I love the way that nature expresses itself; plants often remind me of dancers, but being rooted in solid earth or a heavy pot their 'moves' seem to express an un-self-conscious celebration of life, and a contented acceptance of their earthbound limitations.

Incredible Edible Flower Cake, Bright Still Life Food Art, Contemporary Pop Art
Located in Deddington, GB
A joyful depiction of a towering celebration cake decorated in edible wild flowers. This painting has a great deal of texture, vibrancy and character.
Kerry Louise Bennett, artist and painter, has original artworks available with Wychwood Art in our gallery and online. Working from her home studio in Sheffield, Kerry Louise Bennett (b.1972) makes colourful paintings loaded with texture and pattern. Her previous lives working in set design, upholstery and photography, and her passion for music and literature, all feed into the semi-abstract interior and still life compositions she paints. In one sense the objects painted and the relationships between them can be seen as arbitrary, necessary only to serve a sense of spatial orchestration, and the abstract sensibility of a process-led artist, however, an element of romance and storytelling always seems to emerge in her charming characterful paintings. Colour and composition, strong mark-making and the pure materiality of paint drive my creative practice, but of course everything I make reveals something of me - the introvert, the observer, the dreamer. I work over multiple layers before finding the story the painting wants to tell. In some ways I feel like the conductor of an unruly orchestra - there is a musicality to my work, and my visual vocabulary draws on the everyday to capture a kind of unconscious narrative that transforms chaos into calm, worry into joy, the mundane to the magical. Kerry says of herself: I am obsessed with colour first and foremost – it’s impact is so visceral, but mark making is also important – usually expressed through pattern and the shapes of things often scratched into the surface of the paint, with textures then built up over many layers. My visual vocabulary draws on the ordinary stuff of life - chairs, plants...

'Kitchen Shelves'. Contemporary Scottish Surrealist Acrylic on Canvas.
Located in Cotignac, FR
Surrealist contemporary acrylic on canvas by Scottish artist Frank McLean Docherty R.S.W.
This piece is wonderfully colourful, playful and is typical of his witty sense of humour. Docherty likes to tease us visually and asks questions and presents conundrums to the viewer.
Frank McLean Docherty was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1942. He became a student at Glasgow School of Art in 1960 and graduated from the Department of Printed Textiles in 1964. He taught in a secondary school in the East End of Glasgow for two years, thereafter departing to work in Dublin in the Republic of Ireland as a textile designer (Marks & Spencer, Heals and Liberty of London). He was also an illustrator for a range of newspapers and an Art Director of magazines.
In 1973, he was appointed Principal Teacher of Art in a Scottish High School and in 1978 was honoured by the Queen when he was appointed Member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours (R.S.W.) He left education in 1994. Since that time he has developed a vision which is quite unique in Scottish Art.

The "Spring" series captures the sensations that permeate us during the most enchanting time of the year. It reveals the emergence of feelings, the pleasure of tenderness and the belief in the future.
The color palette of the paintings resembles the blossoming of trees, combining pastel tones with vibrant, saturated accents. They seem effortlessly crafted, as if breathing in cool, fresh air.
The series is executed in a decorative style, with each canvas incorporating elements that convey a sense of textile. These elements refer to traditional...

In a new series titled Qu(i)e(t)er Interiors, Carl Grauer turns inward and brings us into an intimate space; his home. From a place of repose and safety, this environment provides warmth, comfort, and a stage to observe relationships among objects, beings, and the passage of light. His perspective tracks varied emotions, different points of view, and how the light is experienced by candlelight or sunlight reflected on walls and hardwood. “I found peace in observing the changes in light, and observing with slowness and mindfulness that comes during times of meditation.” Simple household objects are the subject of the rather complex compositions with layered perspectives. Grauer merges adept technical abilities with a penchant for authentic expression.
This painting recalls the Dutch masters with its composition and soft application of paint. Sunlight streams in through the bedroom window, raking across a bed made up with white cotton sheets, and pooling onto the brown hard wood floor. This work is intimate, tranquil and is exquisite in its technical rendering.
Artist Bio:
Carl Grauer is a painter based in Poughkeepsie, NY in the beautiful Hudson Valley. He primarily works in oil, painting mostly portraits and figure-based contemporary realistic paintings. Born in rural Kansas, Grauer left to complete his degrees in human biology and his MFA in medical illustration...
