Titled with artist's reference number on back of mount. Stamped, 'Edward Weston printed by' and signed by Cole Weston on back of mount. Inscribed. Printed from the original negative by Cole Weston. Edward Weston, (1886 - 1958) Edward Weston was an American photographer, and co-founder of Group f/64. Most of his work was done using an 8 by 10 inch view camera. In 1902, he received his first camera for his sixteenth birthday, a Kodak Bull's-Eye #2, and began taking photographs in parks in Chicago and at his aunt's farm. The young Weston met with quick success, and his photographs were already being exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute merely a year later, in 1903. Weston worked mainly with nudes, still life - his shells and vegetable studies were especially important - and landscape subjects. After a few exhibitions of his works in New York, he went on to found Group f/64 in 1932 with fellow photographers Ansel Adams, Willard van Dyke...

Cover Illustration for Top-Notch Magazine, August 15, 1921
Forsythe was a major influence on many great artists and had many important friends. He was Rockwell's studiomate and mentor and actually helped Rockwell to get his first cover at The Saturday Evening Post.
Forsythe was also friends with Teddy Roosevelt, who was the first President to drive a car. "The Race is On" 1921 depicts Teddy Roosevelt racing a cowpoke on horseback.
This is a phenomenal painting in many respects - historical, western, presidential, car. Roosevelt is a major collector's market. The car is a Red Model T Roadster as well. It also contains great action and drama - and beautifully rendered, as good if not better than any WR Leigh...

FRANK W. BENSON (1862-1951)
Frank Weston Benson, well known for his American impressionist paintings, also produced an incredible body of prints - etchings, drypoints, and a few lithographs. Born and raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Benson, a natural outdoorsman, grew up sailing, fishing, and hunting. From a young age, he was fascinated with drawing and birding – this keen interest continued throughout his life.
His first art instruction was with Otto Grundman at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and then in 1883 in Paris at the Academie Julian where he studied the rigorous ‘ecole des beaux arts’ approach to drawing and painting for two years.
During the early 1880’s Seymour Haden visited Boston giving a series of lectures on etching. This introduction to the European etching...
