"Béatrice Hug makes colours radiate in all directions and vibrate in a way thought to be restricted to painting, transparencies play like glazes to accentuate depth. Haziness and clarity work together, offsetting each other. (...) Although she sometimes takes her inspiration from the construction of painting and the technique of photography in order to guarantee realism, Béatrice Hug's work dispels any opposition between both practices through its strength and clarity. Instead, she intimately blends these two artistic languages which, by mutually questioning each other, are strengthened and renewed. In the end, we do not question whether we are in front of a photograph or a canvas. The only thing that counts is the certainty of facing reality for our immense emotional and intellectual satisfaction, that raw reality that we live with every day without seeing or understanding its potential beauty."
Béatrice Hug was born in Germany in 1961. She now lives and works in France. She exhibits regularly in France, Germany, England, Switzerland and Italy, but also in the United-States and Brazil.
