About the Item
This was taken on a summer morning in Philadelphia’s Penn’s Landing. Inexplicably, I arrived to a boisterous scene of tourism, local events, and very loud ships that moved through the water and bellowed their horns to the delight of children and newcomers. Yet, among the star behemoths that slowly and loudly traversed the channel of water, I spotted this little rowboat quietly sitting by the dock. The wake of the ships didn’t reach the rowboat, and it seemed so content to gently float in place. Then I thought of the larger ships — how they too would eventually be docked somewhere and quietly sit in place, content and undisturbed. And for a moment, the scale between the two became blurry, evoking a sense of uniformity among even the biggest differences in life.
