This is an archival pigment print on Hahnemule Fine Art paper printed 2005 under the direction of the photographer. The 19" x 13" work is from the portfolio "Masters of Modern Photography. Japan," Tokyo. Edition available: 87/100.

Artist’s Bio:
Yasuhiro Ishimoto a Japanese photographer was born in 1921. His work was chosen by Edward Steichen to appear in the Family of Man exhibition and catalogue at the Museum of Modern Art in 1955, and Steichen also selected his work for a three-person exhibition in 1961. From 1973-1993 Ishimoto produced a number of in-camera color abstractions that appeared as covers for a Japanese magazine. Ishimoto's exhibitions, include New Japanese Photography at the Museum of Modern Art in 1974, solo shows in 1960 and 1999 at the Art Institute of Chicago, a retrospective in 1989–1990 at Seibu Museum of Art in Tokyo, and an exhibition at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, in 1996. His later photography addressed the transitory nature of life as shown in photographs of clouds...

K-NARF was born in 1970 in Saint-Etienne, France and now lives in Tokyo.
K-NARF invented PHOTOGRAFFITI a contemporary way of making street photography that lead him to develop his singular Tape-o-Graphy technique. It involves the application of adhesive tape strips on developed photographs in order to manually process the photographs giving them a unique surface texture and extraordinary appearance.
Open to influences from street art and video, he uses the medium of photography as a toy to create and play. Both conceptual and experimental, definitely non-conventional, his work documents, recycles and collects the visual anachronisms of a world in a perpetual mutation. Through the years, K-narf often got support from key figures of the art world such as Teruo Kurosaki (Idee, Tokyo), Rotraut and Daniel Klein-Moquay (Yves Klein Estate), Joel Meyerowitz (pioneer of contemporary color photography), Jacques Attali (French writer), Olivier Gay (Architect & Art collector) and Yoichi Nakamuta (curator & Art producer). Some of David Halliday's most engaging works are those from his Box Series in which he merges traditional ideas about light and composition with contemporary experiments. In this series an empty cookie tin becomes a tiny studio for food objects. Halliday carefully styles his photographic subjects inside and, allowing only natural light to seep in through a circular window. The results feel less like still lifes and more like intimate portraits of human sustenance. In these photographs, the fleshy curves of a fig, the slick bodies of sardines, even the homeliest porcini mushrooms possess a degree of nobility, providing a refreshing contrast to the compulsive relationship we so often have with food, reminding us to slow down and savor with gratitude.
In this particular image, the bright yellow spiky petals of the zucchini's flower is gently brushed with the natural diffused light, echoing techniques associated with a Vermeer painting!
