Waiting for Tomorrow
Located in Los Angeles, CA
These images are available as hand-pulled polymer photogravures, made with bone black and warm sepia inks on Hahnemühle Copperplate paper. Edition of 109 7 x 9 photopolymer gravure Signed numbered and dated by the artist Framing options available The photographs and poem that evolved into this series of photographs and the accompanying book “Yesterday” were made during the summer of 2020. Although much of the country was in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic, on this remote island off the coast of Maine, we still felt free from much of the toll that Covid was taking. Able to spend time outside, in nature, we had the illusion of safety, of normalcy almost, whilst at the same time being painfully aware of how the virus was increasingly touching everyone's lives. By then we all knew of people who had died, or become ill and we were managing the stress of futures shifting and plans that had been derailed, fearing what would come with the change of the seasons. That summer represented a pause in time, a moment where life could feel normal, when we were still holding on to a world of yesterdays. Maine-based photographic artist and writer Sal Taylor Kydd uses various photographic media in a personal narrative that explores themes around memory and belonging; combining her poetry with alternative processes of photography and object-making. Taylor Kydd’s fine art photographs have been exhibited throughout the country and internationally, including Barcelona, San Miguel De Allende, Portland, Boston and Los Angeles; and she has been featured in numerous publications, including Shots Magazine, Don’t Take Pictures Magazine, Lenscratch, Diffusion Annual and The Hand magazine. She has self-published a number of books combining her poetry with her photographs. Her books are in private and museum collections throughout the country including The Getty Museum, Bowdoin College, The Peabody Essex Museum and the Maine Women Writer’s Collection at the University of New England. Taylor Kydd’s latest book “Yesterday”, produced by Datz Press, is a limited edition book of poems and photographs that explores our sense of loss around the pandemic of 2020. Taylor Kydd is also a veteran workshop leader and educator and has led workshops and conducted portfolio reviews throughout the country and internationally with Maine Media, Santa Fe Workshops, Palm Beach Photography...

"Denizens, #16" black & white photography - travel - highway - portrait
Located in Atlanta, GA
This listing is for a framed print. A simple white frame measuring 15 by 20 inches. Edition of 10. Additional sizes available. Beth Lilly is inspired by the work of Thomas Cole, JMW Turner and Paul Gauguin. Atlanta-based photographer Beth Lilly utilizes a variety of photographic styles in her conceptually driven projects that speculate on the interplay of choice, chance and circumstance. Her most recent series, “The Seventh Bardo,” documents interstate-goers, who on their journey from point A to B, seemingly step outside the confines of time and space, getting lost in contemplation and introspection. In Tibetan, the term ‘Bardo’ literally means ‘the space in-between,’ like a liminal space, and usually refers to the state between death and rebirth. She finds a long journey on the interstate to be a kind of bardo, a state rich with opportunity for transformation. The landscapes and the portraits in this series can stand alone, but are intended to relate and inform each other. The landscapes contain both blurred and sharp elements, signaling that these images are not about a specific geographical place but a psychological place. Nondescript features in the landscape repeat themselves endlessly – this is a limbo that extends forever but goes nowhere. Instead, they serve to set the emotional and psychological stage, and foster a sense of a dreamy otherworldliness “We live in a time when individuality is highly praised, and yet many of us have never been so lonely,” states Beth. “Cars travel the interstate side by side, just feet apart, yet the passengers experience complete isolation. Our windowed vehicles create the illusion of privacy and within these small worlds, people tune out the outside world and appear deep in self-reflection or absorbed in the dramas of life playing out within the small world of their car.” Beth’s portraits record these transitional moments of being lost in thought or the brief moment of connection when they curiously look back at her. Beth earned her MFA in Photography from Georgia State...

Akif Hakan’s sensual photographs are capturing more than just erotica or glamour. Hakan, who is a Turkish-American photographer, carefully designs his characters and scenes, influenced by fashion, cinema, the history of photography and experimental portraits of Man Ray. His goal is to go beyond the charted territories and free himself from the traditional photographic rules so that he can combine various techniques and create a different kind of storytelling. His glamour shots as well as the artistic nudes have a strong cinematic feel, almost as if they were freeze frames from a movie screening. Feminine Mystique Hakan was born in Istanbul in Turkey but his career has begun in the United States in 2004, when he was hired as a cameraman in Miami. Unfortunately, the TV station he was working for was shut down and the artist was unemployed for a while, which brought him a lot of free time when he could experiment with other visual arts. He was always interested in photography and he used to take analog photos in the past, so he decided to get some new digital gear and dedicate himself to photography more seriously. After a few years of hard work, Hakan became one of the best glamour photographers working between Asia and the United States. His portfolio features female models of various ethnicities, but predominantly Asian women with their soft, alluring femininity. Hakan is known for his capability to create tangibly intimate sets and voyeuristic, erotic scenes arranged in domestic spaces, such as bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens. A portion of his work is also dedicated to alternative erotica – BDSM sets and the art of shibari, similarly to Nobyoshi Araki. Asian Cinema and Culture Hakan’s most recent body of work is paying homage to the artist’s fascination with Asian cinema and culture. Lighting and palette of Hakan’s Hong Kong series are inspired by movies such as Wong Kar-Wai’s In the Mood for Love. Hakan created the sultry noir atmosphere with his dark backgrounds, golden highlights and luxurious textures against the delicate naked skin of his models. Other photos from the artist’s Asian series offer an insight into the avant-garde Japanese fashion. In his Fashion is Image series, Hakan represents the Harajuku fashion style, named after one of the most popular Tokyo urban quarters. His models wear heavy make-up and elaborate costumes embellished with toys or flowers, as well as S&M corsets. Hakan’s artworks depicting Tokyo urban and alternative scene are inevitably raising the questions about cultural and identity issues of the Far East. Master of Capturing Intimate Moods Thanks to his beautifully crafted photographs which tread the line between glamour photography and fine art portraiture, Hakan is recognized as one of the best new generation photographers by multiple fashion magazines and he was the finalist in the International Color Awards. His ability to capture the intimate, domestic atmosphere and mix dark, gloomy sentiments with glamour and fashion is truly outstanding. Hakan excelled in creating commercial art that feels strongly personal, in the sense that viewers feel strangely connected to the subjects in his pieces. Akif Hakan lives between Hong Kong, Istanbul and Miami The subjects of Akif Hakan’s photographs are more than just sultry females. They are carefully crafted characters, born from the strange world of the artist’s imagination. Drawing from a wide range of influences, including fashion, Asian cinema, and the history of photography—experimental portraits by Man Ray, for instance—Hakan’s images present a modern take on fanciful femininity. Hakan, who hails from Istanbul but now lives and works in Miami, treads the line between fashion photography and fine art, and has earned recognition as “one of the best new generation photographers of the future” from Italy’s Max Magazine and a spot as a finalist in the International Color Awards. His works are defined by an affinity for vibrant palettes and a palpable aura of feminine mystique, whether conveyed through bright backdrops against which heavily costumed women...

Ed. 2/12, signed on the recto, includes black frame. Guadalupe Laiz is an international artist, photographer and explorer born and raised in Argentina. Guadalupe’s main focus for the past ten years has been an extensive body of work capturing the beauty and uniqueness of the indigenous horses of Iceland, a country that has touched her deeply and continues to visit. Her work “Horses of Iceland” has been shown in exhibitions all over the world. This photograph is from her newest series "Among the Living." For this body of work, Laiz traveled across the African continent for six years, visiting Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Batswana, Rwanda, and Uganda. Forgoing comfort often for months at a time, she returned with intimate portraits of the charismatic and fierce, yet vulnerable and endangered animals she encountered. It is impossible to look at one of her photographs and not feel her subject’s innate individuality. As part of her artistic process, she spends time with each animal up close in its natural habitat, gets to know...
