In 1967, Claxton created the film, "Basic Black," which is credited as the first "fashion video," and is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

William Claxton
William Claxton, a native of Pasadena, California, is a world-renowned photographer of jazz musicians. He is best known for establishing the visual concept for West Coast Jazz photography, the photographing of musicians in natural and healthful settings associated with the California lifestyle. Musicians photographed by Claxton include such legends as Duke Ellington, Shorty Rogers, Dave Brubeck, Chet Baker, Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, Bill Evans, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk.
