Crushed Oil Can Ltd Ed 3/20
Located in New York, NY
Aluminum mounted giclee archival print. Ltd Ed 3/20. Sits about an inch off the wall. ABOUT THE ARTIST Marco studied fine art at Pratt Institute and the Art Students League in New York. New York Times photography critic Gene Thornton called Marco “a Minimalist, whose images are sensual, whimsical, often surreal, always strong, and deceptively simple.” “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Phil Marco on a number of my films. Phil is a man of extraordinary talents. It seems that his passion is to take an everyday object or event, and show it in an entirely new and exciting way.” Martin Scorsese. Phil’s work is represented in MOMA, The Museum of the Moving Image, and The George Eastman Museum of Photography. His first photographs were studies for his paintings, before he launched a career in print advertising. He eventually became a Director / DP for film and television for a vast base of national and international clients with his wife Patricia as Partner and Producer. In the 1980’s and 90’s Phil was the go to person for Special Effects in Television and Cinema, also best known for his graphic conceptual still lives, and his consummate mastery of lighting, and design. He’s won many awards for his work, including numerous Cannes Lions, Cleo’s, a Grammy for his print work on the legendary “Tommy the Who...

Group of Seven Awkward Moments (Beavers and Woo at Tanoo)
Located in Montreal, Quebec
Canadians have a funny kind of national identity, meaning specifically we do not really have one. To say that there is a national identity is to enter into a discussion without end -because there are just too many different kinds of people in Canada- it would be impossible to pin identity to anything, let alone a top-down Multicultural Act, or a Group of Seven. Strangely though, in art, that is exactly where Canadian begins, with a Group of Seven. In Diana Thorneycroft’s new series Group of Seven Awkward Moments, the momentous humor Canada is famous for is contrasted with the nation’s dirty little secret: that it is not funny at all, and in fact, much too serious, bordering on menacing. The new series of works falls into a line of art objects created by Canadian artists within the last few years that utilize parody and play to explode the hallowed imagery of nationalized corporatism. In the case of Thorneycroft, the use of backdrops that are reproduced works of the Group of Seven and Tom Thompson...

"Cummins Steam Pump", 2007
Located in Hudson, NY
Ian Gittler’s Motor Art series-photographs of century-old engine parts, gears, sparkplugs, and brand tags-offers respite from the digital fetishism, overexposure and one-hundred-forty-character bursts of communication that seem to define our era. Gittler is no luddite, he loves his iPhone. But these images, often obscuring the objects beyond identification, take unsentimental pleasure in elements of weight, ground, volume and permanence that are more closely associated with a bygone heyday of industrialization. These photographs are about a tangible physical experience, about moving parts. Gittler’s expert printing-his ability to see the potential in a frame and employ the techniques necessary to articulate that vision on paper-brings the work to life. There’s wit in the brand iconography and a documentary component, but Gittler resists prescribing interpretations, saying subtext isn’t the point. His use of extremely shallow depth of field, intense contrast and exploded grain is muscular and poetic. But subtext is relevant. Although Robin Rice first approached Ian Gittler about his vector-based art on photo paper, the gallerist challenged him to create a series of photographs with that kind of machismo. As a native New Yorker who was marched through the halls of MOMA as a toddler, Gittler’s inspiration-his idea of macho-has less to do with cowboys and racecar drivers than with Franz Kline brushstrokes and modernist design. For Gittler, macho means the maximum amount of black ink that can lie across a sheet of photo paper. That kind of force. He narrowed his field of view for this series-often to a centimeter or two-in order to achieve a purely visual, visceral response. Gittler titled the work Motor Art in tribute to the 1934 Museum of Modern Art exhibit, Machine Art. Upon its sixtieth anniversary, Phillip Johnson wrote of the show (and of his own essay for its original opening), “The thrust was clear: anti-handicraft, industrial methods alone satisfied our age; Platonic dreams of perfection were the ideal.” Ian Gittler photographs, draws, writes, and makes music. He has created album covers for Willie Nelson, Roy Hargrove...

The photo you see here was a one-and-done kind of photo. Most of my work is thought out beforehand since I'm shooting on film, but this photo has been on my mind for years now. It's a photo that is very difficult to pull off and the timing has to be just right. When the owners walked the horses up to one another the male on the left went down to nuzzle the female on the right and quickly rested their heads against each other. It was almost as if they were destined to be together. With no time to spare, I had to manually focus as quickly as possible and capture this moment just in time before they moved out of the frame. When I received my film back from the lab I couldn't have been any happier with how it turned out. The male horse on the left has this masculine and powerful presence but is calmly resting his head so gently against the female to the right. To me, it represents intimacy and true love. A love that dedicates itself to protecting and providing for another soul. The way that their faces perfectly line up as their eyes meet, creates an energy filled with devotion while allowing for a moment of stillness. It perfectly portrays that when you find a love that is pure and unwavering, nothing can come between two hearts. You are together as one." About The Artist: Beau Simmons...

Artist Journal Entry: "My artwork, Pit Stop, was created with references like Bonnie & Clyde and the movie Pulp Fiction floating around in my head. A story that focuses on two lovers stopping at an old diner somewhere in the Mojave desert. An empty and barren wasteland that stretches on for miles and miles offering those who visit a last call to fill up on gas, grab a bite to eat, or crash in an old dusty motel room for the night. I wanted to capture a mood that felt lived in. A place that allows your mind to engage with it and feel like you’re standing there under a hot summer sun. Surrounding you in an environment filled with rolling tumbleweeds, cracked leather seats, 70s country echoing through the valley, the smell of burgers on the grill, cigarette smoke dancing in the air, the bell hanging above the gas station door dinging as you walk in, and the lovely stare from a woman’s eyes sitting beside you. This artwork was also an opportunity for me to create a scenario that I believe was just an average day fifty years ago. A much simpler time in a place I once called home. This artwork is for those who live for adventure. For those who live on the road. Finally, for those who just need a mental escape from our everyday lives." About The Artist: Beau Simmons...

Cowgirl Summer
Located in Miami, FL
Frame adds 7" to dimensions. Artwork is available in three sizes: 32 in. x 40 in. 48 in. x 60 in. 60 in. x 75 in. Artist Journal Entry: "This artwork was an image that was captured while visiting a ranch in Stephenville, TX. Each one of these women either cowboy daily or compete in rodeos. I have been wanting to highlight more women throughout my work who represent the western lifestyle. Their presence in this industry and in our lives is needed and should be honored. I photographed this moment just as they were finishing up doctoring some cattle and had a break to enjoy the sun along with a few cold beers. After all, western women sure do know how to keep up with us men while also showing us up more often than we’d like to admit. When I tell you that these women are just built differently, it’s clear from the moment you shake hands with them. They don’t care about the dirt under their nails, the mud on their boots, or the occasional thorns twisted up in their hair. When it comes to maintaining the land and the animals they look after, they don’t cut corners or have time to complain. However, when the work is done, they still know how to throw on an outfit that catches stares from every corner of the saloon. The balance of a nurturing and strong woman is one of the most admirable traits. You just don’t see it everywhere but when you do, you know it’s special. My hat is off to the women who represent this lifestyle and everything they contribute to it." About The Artist: Beau Simmons...

Sunrise At The Sixes
Located in Miami, FL
Frame adds 7" to dimensions. Artwork is available in three sizes: 32 in. x 48 in. 40 in. x 60 in. 48 in. x 72 in. “Sunrise At The Sixes” Artist Journal Entry: "In December of 2022, I was invited to capture photos of the cowboys at the 6666 Ranch for their last branding of the year. The day before this photo was captured, we were working on a southern pasture in muddy conditions on a cold winter morning. All of the cowboys, including writer and creator of the television series Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan, spent all day branding their last group of calves for the season. The following morning, I drove from the North Camp where I was staying and met with all the guys again in front of the iconic L Barn. Waiting for the sun to rise, we gathered horses and exchanged stories alongside a warm cup of coffee before finally setting up the composition I had in mind. I wanted to create an image that captures the spirit and bond between these men. An image that celebrates the hard work and selflessness that goes into maintaining the ranch, the land, and the livestock that feed from it. Lastly, an image that honors this historic ranch and those who have worked under its brand. I am honored to have been accepted to create this artwork alongside the cowboys at the 6666 Ranch in collaboration with Taylor Sheridan." About The Artist: Beau Simmons has been a professional photographer since 2009. He grew up just outside Joshua Tree National Park, CA. He made a name for himself at 21 in the fashion photography industry working with clients including Marc Jacobs, 7 For All Mankind, Guess Jeans, and Converse. He was a go-to photographer for such agencies as Elite Models, IMG, and Ford Models. The fashion scene began to grind on Beau. Being a cowboy is in his blood. In this spirit, he decided to pursue his love for the western lifestyle and the wonder of the American landscape. Mojave 1975
Located in Miami, FL
Frame adds 7" to dimensions. Artwork is available in three sizes: 20 in. x 40 in. 30 in. x 60 in. 40 in. x 80 in. "Mojave 1975" Artist Journal Entry: "While working out logistics for my new artwork series, Mojave, this concept was one of the more challenging production sets to pull off. The final image you see here was only captured once on a roll of 120mm film. Weeks prior to this, I knew I wanted to have an old phone booth built outside of this classic diner while parking the car at the perfect angle to not block the cowboys staged in the backdrop. I didn’t have any idea what the location looked like in person nor had any time to scout before the day of filming. I had to work with what few images I could find online, various angles taken from Google Earth, and a notepad which I sketched on to give me a general idea. On set, we spent about an hour setting up the phone booth in the perfect spot, followed by adjusting the two vehicles at the correct angle. We used a 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 and a 1971 Ford F-250 Pickup. Once the vehicles were in place, I began posing the cowboys in the background and the two models last. Looking through my camera viewfinder felt like taking a step back into 1975. Everything fell perfectly into place. The styling of the outfits down to the props placed around the set. It was an incredible moment to have come to life with barely any reference to go off of. I hope this artwork takes you through a nostalgic daydream as it does for me." About The Artist: Beau Simmons has been a professional photographer since 2009. He grew up just outside Joshua Tree National Park, CA.
