The engraving signed by the Italo-Brazilian artist Alfredo Volpi is a unique specimen, numbered 84/120 and measuring 80 x 60cm. Volpi's work is known for presenting striking characteristics, such as the flags and houses, which are elements present in many of his works. Volpi began his career as a painter in 1911, when he started creating decorative murals. Over the years, he became a master in the use of tempera on canvas and became known for his magnificent and impactful compositions, exploring shapes and colors in a unique way. Alongside Arcangelo Ianelli and Aldir Mendes de Souza, he formed a trio of skilled colorists who were the focus of a book called 3 Colorists. In addition to being a painter, Volpi worked as a decorator painter in the homes of São Paulo's high society, executing artistic decoration work on walls and murals. During his career, he held his first solo exhibition at the age of 47 and participated in several exhibitions, including the 2nd São Paulo Biennial, where he received the award for best national painter in 1953. Volpi evolved into geometric abstractionism in the 1950s, creating a series of flags and Junina festival poles that are considered iconic works of the artist. He also participated in the first Concrete Art Exhibition, alongside the Santa Helena Group, which included painters such as Aldo Bonadei, Clóvis Graciano, Fúlvio Penacchi, and Ernesto de Fiori. Volpi had a tumultuous personal life, including disputes among his heirs. He had four children, including Eugenia, who was removed from the position of administrator after a dispute among the heirs. Alfredo Volpi received many honors throughout his career, including the Order of the Ipiranga, in the rank of Grand Officer, granted by the Government of São Paulo on his 80th birthday. In 2013, he was honored with a doodle on the Google Brazil homepage, showing the importance of the artist's legacy to Brazilian culture.
