Untitled - Original Etching by Cesare Peverelli - 1973
Located in Roma, IT
Image dimensions: 23.7 x 17.7 cm Senza Titolo is an original black and white etching on paper, realized by the Italian artist Cesare Peverelli (Milan, 1922-Paris, 2000) and printed in 1973 by La Nuova Foglio, a publishing house of Macerata, as the dry-stamp reports on the lower right corner. Hand-signed and numbered in pencil and in Arabic numerals on lower margin. From an edition of 100 prints. This is an instinctive composition showing a very rapid line and remembering the Surrealist lesson of the automatic written. Cesare Peverelli (Milan, 1922 - Paris, 2000) Cesare Peverelli began his artistic career in 1939 when he attended the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and was a pupil of Achille Funi and Carlo Carrà. Through Ennio Morlotti he came into contact with the Corrente group, preferring however to the chromatic lighting of the neo-cubism the tonalism of Giorgio Morandi. He tied himself to the Argine Numero magazine and was in 1946 among the signatories of the Oltre Guernica poster. In 1947, at the Italian art exhibition today. Turin Prize, he won the Grosso Award, met Cesare Pavese and began to collaborate with the Einaudi publishing house, and produced the cover of La nausea by Jean Paul Sartre (1948). In search of an engagé painting not dominated by ideologies, he was one of the founders in 1946 of the Numero Pittura magazine and with Roberto Crippa he opened the Painting gallery, where in 1949 he held a solo show accompanied by a poem by Aimé Césaire...

The artwork is in mint condition Very rare Notes: Provenance: private company collection - Miami, FL, acquired directly from the publisher Tyler Graphics Ltd., Bedford Village, NY in the 1970's. Numbered by Lichtenstein in pencil lower left. Comes from Lichtenstein's 1976 "Entablature Series" portfolio of 11 prints, (Corlett No. 138-148). Printed in six colors, in seven runs, from five screens, and one embossing plate. Collaboration: Kenneth Tyler (project supervision, plate/screen preparation, proofing, collage, and embossing); Kim Halliday (screen preparation and processing, proofing, and edition printing); Betty Fiske (proofing and edition printing). Swan Engraving processed the magnesium plate. Tyler Graphics Ltd. chop mark/blind stamp lower right. Workshop number inscribed in pencil lower left on verso: "RL75-197". Comes with its original Tyler Graphics "Entablature Series" booklet. Between 1971 and 1976 Lichtenstein produced two series of "Entablature" paintings, using photographs of architectural ornament he had taken in New York as the starting point for his compositions (see Cowart [1981]). The first "Entablature" paintings (1971-72) were black and white. The second group used color and were produced at roughly the same time the "Entablature" series of prints were in production at Tyler Graphics Ltd., 1974-76. The first discussions between Lichtenstein and Ken Tyler concerning the "Entablature" prints took place in May, 1974. As recorded in the Tyler catalogue raisonne, technical research for the project began in September 1974 and production was completed in April 1976. Lichtenstein produced one or more collages for each print in the series to serve as models for the plates and screens. Both the "Entablature" paintings and prints are intimately concerned with texture - the metallic paint and sand of the paintings, the foils and embossing/debossing techniques employed in the prints. The imagery itself - machined architectural ornament - takes technology as its subject. As Barbara Rose suggests, "That industrialism disrupted our notion of style as much as reproduction altered our conception of representation appears to be the subjects of Lichtenstein's "Entablatures". For each print in this series, the Tyler Graphics Ltd. catalogue raisonne gives exact method and press types, as well as the initials of the printers for each run. To complete certain phases of the project, Tyler employed the following companies: Drake Engineering, Danbury, CT (for machining of the metal die); Swan Engraving, Bridgeport, CT (for plate processing); Tallix Foundry, Beacon, NY (for bronze casting); and Tompkins Tooling, Gardena, CA (for machining of the metal die). The ten embossing plates for the series are now in the collection of the National Gallery, Canberra, Australia. Biography: American artist Roy Lichtenstein was born in New York City on October 27, 1923, and grew up on Manhattan's Upper West Side. In the 1960s, Lichtenstein became a leading figure of the new Pop Art movement. Inspired by advertisements and comic strips, Lichtenstein's bright, graphic works parodied American popular culture and the art world itself. He died in New York City on September 29, 1997. Lichtenstein was committed to his art until the end of his life, often spending at least 10 hours a day in his studio. His work was acquired by major museum collections around the world, and he received numerous honorary degrees and awards, including the National Medal of Arts in 1995. In 2013 the painting "Woman with Flowered Hat" set another record at $56.1 million as it was purchased by British jeweler Laurence Graff from American investor Ronald O. Perelman. This was topped in November of 2015 by the sale of "Nurse" for 95.4 million dollars at Christie's auction. Subsequently, that was topped with the private sale of his 1962 painting...

He is the founder of Atelier 17, and as such, one of the most influential printmakers of the 20th century. The print has full margins and is in very good condition, never framed. There is a bit of slight rippling on the upper and lower edges, barely visible. Please see photographs. Stanley William Hayter CBE (27 December 1901 – 4 May 1988) was an English painter and printmaker associated in the 1930s with surrealism and from 1940 onward with abstract expressionism. Regarded as one of the most significant printmakers of the 20th century, in 1927 Hayter founded the legendary Atelier 17 studio in Paris. Since his death in 1988, it has been known as Atelier Contrepoint. In 1965 he won the coveted Prize of Foreign Painting given by the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Joyce T. Nagel Print "Vegetable Forms No. 9" "1st State" Signed Dated Ltd Ed
Located in Detroit, MI
"Vegetable Forms No. 9" "1st State" is a beautiful linear design woodcut of an artichoke. What is intellectually interesting is the fractal beauty of nature found in the artichoke. A fractal is a kind of pattern that we observe often in nature and in art. Whenever you observe a series of patterns repeating over and over again, at many different scales, and where any small part resembles the whole, that’s a fractal. The Artichoke is the perfect example in that the shape of the leaves repeat themselves and they are the same shape as the fruit itself. Fractals are exciting, not only for their mathematical or conceptual representation, but also for the fact that you can visualise the math—and it’s beautiful! This print is rendered in an intense green with a light blue color to delineate the intriguing linear element of the artichoke's leaves. Joyce Tilley Nagel...

Geranium

’Geranium’ By Yutaka Takayanagi. Medium - Relief and lithographic print Edition - 5/20 Signed - Yes Size - 510mm x 660mm Date - 1978 Condition - Excellent. 10 out of 10. Born in Tokyo in 1941, Takayanagi's artistic journey began when he enrolled at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1960, studying under the renowned oil painter Kaoru Yamaguchi. His talent was quickly recognized when he received an Honorable Mention at the 8th Shell Arts Award Exhibition in the same year. During his time at university, Takayanagi took an intensive course in copper plate printing under Tetsuro Komai, receiving his degree from the graduate school in 1966. Fascinated by the simultaneous color print method, he started creating copperplate prints and soon gained recognition for his unique metallic reliefs, which he produced using collages of English newspapers. Takayanagi's passion for experimentation led him to create metallic emboss reliefs using his own photographs, and in the latter half of the 1980s, he moved on to silkscreen prints. He continued to push the boundaries of his art, constantly exploring new techniques and mediums. In 1978 and the following year, Takayanagi was appointed as an arts researcher for the Ministry of Culture and traveled to the United States, France, and the UK. These experiences enriched his artistic perspective and further cemented his reputation as a highly regarded artist. Takayanagi was part of the influential printmaking group Sosaku Hanga, which emerged in the early 20th century in Japan. This movement emphasized the artist's involvement in every stage of the printmaking process, from designing the image to carving and printing the blocks. Takayanagi's work often incorporates elements of nature and landscape, with an emphasis on texture and pattern. He also experimented with collage, incorporating found materials like newspaper clippings and photographs into his prints. Takayanagi's work has been exhibited extensively in Japan and internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo. He has also received numerous awards for his contributions to printmaking, including the Japan Print Association Award and the Purple Ribbon Medal...
