Andy Warhol
Deluxe Signed Edition of Film Festival Lincoln Center (Feldman & Schellmann, II.19), 1967
Silkscreen, die-cut on opaque acrylic
Edition 2/200
Hand-signed by artist, As this work was done on acrylic, Warhol signed and numbered it by hand on verso with an engraving needle. Stamped and dated with copyright
A die-cut window has been created in the back of the frame to reveal Warhol's incised signature and edition
Publisher: Leo Castelli, New York
Printer: Chiron Press, New York
Catalogue Raisonne: Feldman & Schellmann, II.19
This work is often hung and displayed both vertically and horizontally - see photos for inspiration
This work is one of only 200 done on opaque acrylic rather than wove paper, signed and numbered on the opaque acrylic by Andy Warhol with an engraving pen. (Separately, there was an unsigned edition of 500 on wove paper). What distinguishes this rare, extremely desirable signed edition of 200, other than that it is signed and numbered by hand by Andy Warhol, is that the black graphic text FIFTH NEW YORK is placed directly over the text Film Festival of Lincoln Center; whereas in the edition of 500, the text black text FIFTH NEW YORK is placed on top of the white text. An innovative feature that appears in this special edition is a perforated line running across the surface of the print, at its triangular cut out sides, mimicking the tear line present in real commercial movie admissions tickets. Chiron Press commissioned by Lincoln Center, devised a special process expressly to imprint the edition with this perforation using a die cut stamp. This work is quintessential early Warhol, with characteristic bright neon colors, featuring text, along with the artist's very recognizable flower motif. The Lincoln Center ticket simultaneously reflects Warhol's central preoccupations with commercial culture (the ticket is, par excellence, an object that is bought and sold), as well as his fascination with Hollywood - as the ticket, quite literally, represents an entree into the world of film. Warhol's appropriation of the flower - an otherwise sentimental and decorative motif, transforming it into a symbol of the Pop Art movement, is a hallmark of his early style and innovations. Andy Warhol's vibrant vintage color silkscreen Lincoln Center Ticket from the fabulous Sixties is considered one of the more iconic and recognizable Warhol images. It is also one of Warhol's earliest prints. The Vera List...

Altitudes
Located in Saint Augustine, FL
An original signed lithograph on light yellow-pink J.B. Green Hayle Mill Bodleian handmade paper by American artist Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011) titled "Altitudes", 1978. Hand pencil signed, dated, and numbered by Frankenthaler lower right. Limited edition: 29/42. Lithograph drawn with tusche wash. Printed in two colors from two stones: red and green. Printed by Bill Goldston and John A. Lund of ULAE and published by Universal Limited Art Editions, West Islip, NY. ULAE chop mark/blind stamp lower right. Reference: "Frankenthaler: A Catalogue Raisonné - Prints 1961-1994" - Harrison No. 72, page 264, 268-270; ULAE - Sparks No. 33, page 88, 323; Clark No. 67; Williams No. 67. Provenance: private collection - New York, NY; private collection - notable fashion illustrator Jay Hyde Crawford, New York, NY, acquired from an art gallery in New York, NY; likely acquired directly from the publisher ULAE. Sheet size (irregular margins): 22.25" x 30.88". Remnants of previous mounting tape on verso. In excellent condition with strong colors. Extremely rare. Beautiful work.
"Frankenthaler: A Catalogue Raisonné - Prints 1961-1994" - Harrison - "Frankenthaler carefully chose a European handmade paper that would add another color and texture to the print" ... "By contrast, in "Altitudes", the artist created a bleed image so that the sheet of paper is smaller than the stone's image and the large red tusche wash sweeps across the surface of the yellow-pink J.B. Green Hayle Mill Bodleian paper, becoming warmed and enhanced by its color and texture."
"Universal Limited Art Editions - A History and Catalogue: The First Twenty-Five Years" - Sparks - "In "Bronze Smoke" (cat. no. 32), "Altitudes" (cat. no. 33), and "Door" (cat. no. 34), minimal compositions were replaced by fields of drifting, multilayered color, as rich and satisfying as her work on a much grander scale."
Frankenthaler was an American abstract expressionist painter. She was a major contributor to the history of postwar American painting...

10 Statues of Liberty, Paris, 1986
Offset Lithograph
38 3/4 × 27 inches
Edition of 500
Published by: Galerie Lavignes-Bastille, Paris
Unframed
This oversized vintage Warhol exhibition poster was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Andy Warhol: 10 Statues of Liberty" at Galerie Lavignes-Bastille, Paris, 8 April - 30 May, 1986. The print was published in an edition of fewer than 500, and is considered especially collectible as it was a lifetime edition for an exhibition that Warhol attended. It was printed in 1986, the year before Warhol died. Warhol's renditions of the Statue of Liberty have been the inspiration in both subject matter and style of many subsequent generations of Pop artists, including Peter Max's ubiquitous Statues of Liberty. Warhol reprised his successful 1960s series based on Lady Liberty, with 10 of the large-scaled Camouflage Statue of Liberty paintings based on a close-up enlargement of the figure’s head. These later Liberty works commemorated the 100th anniversary of the gift of the statue from France to America, according to Warhol biographer Victor Bockris. Warhol traveled to Paris in March that same year for the debut of this body of work at Galerie Lavignes-Bastille. The show was initially an uncharacteristic and inexplicable failure. “It was a great show,” recalled the dealer Patrice...

Rosenquist began the painting F-111 in 1964, in the middle of the Vietnam War. He positioned his main subject, the F-111 military plane, which was in development at the time, flying through fragmented images of consumer products and references to war. Through its expansive network of colliding visual motifs, F-111 addresses the connections between the Vietnam War, income taxes, consumerism, and advertising.
James Rosenquist was an American Pop artist known for his monumental paintings and prints. Often appropriating commercial imagery, his montage-like works combined popular culture, surrealism, and historical painting methods. “Much of the aesthetic of my work comes from doing commercial art,” the artist once said. “I painted pieces of bread, Arrow shirts...
