Salvador Dali (Spanish, 1904-1989 )is considered as the greatest original artist of the surrealist art movement and one of the greatest masters of art of the twentieth century. Dali began to study art at the Royal Academy of Art in Madrid. He was expelled twice and never took the final examinations. His opinion was that he was more qualified than those who should have examined him. Surreal Art In 1928 Dali went to Paris where he met the Spanish painters Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro. He established himself as the principal figure of a group of surrealist artists grouped around Andre Breton, who was something like the theoretical "schoolmaster" of surrealism. Years later Breton turned away from Dali accusing him of support of fascism, excessive self-presentation and financial greediness. By 1929 Dali had found his personal style that should make him famous - the world of the unconscious that is recalled during our dreams. The surrealist theory is based on the theories of the psychologist Dr. Sigmund Freud. Recurring images of burning giraffes and melting watches...

Le Cheval et le Loup (The Horse and the Wolf)
Located in White Plains, NY
'Le Cheval et le Loup (The Horse and the Wolf)' 2018 by Salvador Dali, from the series Le Bestiaire de la Fontaine Dalinise. Drypoint etching with stencil on Japon paper, Ed. 13/250. Plate: 15.5 x 22.5 in. / Sheet: 22 x 30 in. / Frame: 24.5 x 31.25 in. This etching depicts a horse jumping over a thistle-like plant and a cave is prominently featured in the background. The palette of soft colors are in blue, brown, green, and pink. This image is based on one of La Fontaine’s fables which trace to ancient sources, such as Aesop, the Roman writer Phaedrus, and the Indian storyteller Bidpai. La Fontaine altered aspects of the tales, elevating them from simplistic prose to sophisticated poetic verses. Born in Figueres, Spain, Salvador Dalí was encouraged to practice his art from an early age and would eventually go on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. It was not until the late 1920s that Dali discovered Sigmund Freud’s writings on subconscious imagery and became affiliated with the Paris Surrealists...
