About the Item
Pendant l'entracte is a beautiful and colored lithograph on paper, signed in pencil on lower left margin by Alexandre Lunois (1863 -1916).
This original print, representing a couple of elegant women waiting for the beginning of the theatrical opera in a merveillous gallery, is realized by a very rapid line and with vivid colors. This lithograph was printed by A. Lafontaine and Fils (Paris) (as the note reports on the lower margin at the center) and will be published by the French newspaper "L'Artiste" n. 12 in 1894.
our original print is a wonderful proof of the first state on two, before letter and before the publication on the "L'Artiste".
In good condition, with some visible stains on the edges and a usual yellowing of the paper. A white cardboard passepartout is included, cm 26 x 34.7
Alexandre Lunois (Paris,1863-1916) was a French watercolor painter and pastellist, engraver, poster artist and illustrator, renowned for his lithographic color wash. He was a wonderful autodidact artist, considered to be the re-inventor of the so-called lithotint technique.

Alexandre Lunois
Alexandre Lunois was born on February 2, 1863, in Paris. Lunois was an autodidact and is considered to be the re-inventor of the lithotint technique. His first works were black and white lithographs, including "Scenes from a Life in Paris," "The Circus" and "Dutch Scenes." Inspired by his yearly travels, Alexandre Lunois went more and more to color lithography. He produced the illustrations for Theophile Gautier's "Fortunio," among others. Alexandre Lunois also worked as an engraver from 1907 onwards and published a luxury edition of the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen with 66 of his engravings under the title "Histoires et Aventures" in his own publishing house. Lunois died on September 2, 1916, in Le-Pecq.
