The Campbell’s soup can is synonymous with Warhol; although many of his works gained notoriety over the years, there is perhaps no other image that is so intertwined with the artist. After giving the first 32 cans the pop art treatment in 1962, he returned to the subject in 1968 and 1969. Notably, the Campbell’s Soup Cans II portfolio ranks amongst Warhol’s top 10 most valuable portfolios of all time. ANDY WARHOL (1928-1987) Amongst the most influential artists of the second half of the twentieth-century, Andy Warhol, a founding artist of the Pop Art movement, was renown as a creative genius. Warhol adapted the commercial process of silkscreening to the fine art world, having created masterpieces such as Marilyn Monroe, and Ads & Myths, which rank alongside the most recognizable images in art history. Throughout his career Warhol was regarded as a pop culture icon.

About the Artist: Tom Wesselmann (1931–2004) was an American Pop artist best known for his collages, sculptures, and screenprints that stylized the female figure. Often isolating segments of the body—red lips with a cigarette, a single nipple, or a stylish shoe—his artworks aim was to seize a viewer’s attention. “The prime mission of my art, in the beginning, and continuing still, is to make figurative art as exciting as abstract art,” he once said of his work. Born on February 23, 1931 in Cincinnati, OH, he was drafted into the US Army to serve in the Korean War in 1952. Returning home after the war, he studied drawing at the Art Academy of Cincinnati before working as an illustrator of comic strips and men’s magazines...
