About the Item

The same urn, in perspective Beautiful artist proof, printed on antique laid paper, large margins, showing a precious urn. Etching with good contrasts and sharp details, signed on plate “Cavalier Piranesi F.” on lower-left corner. With a detailed description concerning the provenance of the urn and dedicated to “Sig. Cav. re Giovanni Scawen “. Very good condition, with little stains and some foxing, restauration work on left and right margins. From the serie “Vases and Candelabras (…)” realised by G.B. Piranesi, printed by his son Francesco. Passepartout included : 79.5 x 58.5 cm Image Dimensions : 66.5 x 41.5 cm Undoubtedly Piranesi was one of the most important engravers in 18th century even if he was well-known as an architect and an archaeologist: the greatest engraver in the period from Rembrandt a Goya. The generations after him have continued to imagine the Ancient Rome as the artist has portrayed his magnificent in "Vedute". References: L.
