About the Item

Christ and the Samaritan Woman is an original artwork realized in 1669. Original black and white etching. This artwork was realized by Jan de Bisschop after a painting by Annibale Carracci Published by Gerard Valk (1652 - 1726). Good conditions except for foxings. Jan de Bisschop or Johannes Episcopius (Amsterdam, 1628 - Den Haag, 1671) was a lawyer and artist from the Dutch golden age. He learned the art of drawing in Amsterdam in the period from 1644 to 1648 from Bartholomeus Breenbergh. Despite his amateur status Jan de Bisschop had a large influence. Gerard Valck of Gerardus Valk (Amsterdam, 30 September 1652- there, 21 October 1726) was a print and plate seller at the Dam. The original painting by Annibale Carracci was executed around 1596-97 for the Oddi family of Perugia today preserved in the Szepmuveszeti Muzeum in Budapest, a copy of the larger one made by Hannibal for the Sampieri home in Bologna.
