About the Item

Technique: Aquatint and etching Paper: Gourbeyre wove paper with watermark “Au Vent d’Arles” Edition: 73/75 Signed: Hand-signed and numbered in pencil Printer: Atelier Crommelynck, Paris Sheet: 41.8 × 54 cm (16.5 × 21.3 in) Frame (approx.): 66 × 78 cm (26 × 30.7 in) Catalogue Reference: Bloch 1130; Baer 1127 Provenance: Copy of catalogue page (Bloch) included with documentation Condition: Very good. -- With lyrical ambiguity and masterful restraint, Picasso’s Le Peintre et son Modèle draws the viewer into one of the artist’s most intimate obsessions: the act of creation itself. A seated muse, an artist mid-stroke, and a looming male figure echo Picasso’s lifelong dialogue between model, creator, and observer. Rendered in velvety aquatint and etching, this print captures a sensual, almost theatrical stillness — a moment suspended between gaze and gesture. Printed by the renowned Crommelynck studio in Paris, this impression bears the mark of excellence associated with Picasso’s late-period graphic works. The use of Gourbeyre wove paper — with its delicate “Au Vent d’Arles” watermark — lends the piece both texture and rarity, a physical echo of the Mediterranean light that so deeply influenced Picasso’s practice. Only 75 impressions were produced, and this is number 73, signed boldly in pencil by the artist. Picasso’s signature alone — fluid, deliberate — anchors the work in the tangible reality of his hand. With market interest in Picasso's etchings steadily rising, this work presents not just an acquisition, but a dialogue with history, captured in ink.
