Aliyah, Return, O Virgin of Israel is part of the Aliyah suite which was created by Salvador Dali for the 20th anniversary of the proclamation of the State of Israel. Aliyah literally means ” migration to the land of Israel. ” This original limited edition lithograph is from a set of 25 prints from mixed media paintings. The series also features an introduction by David Ben Gurion a major figure in the history of Israel. The complete quote for this print is ” Return O virgin of Israel, Return these thy cities ( Jeremiah 31.21 ). It is published by Shorewood Press and numbered 232 out of 250 and is signed in pencil by the artist and is in excellent condition.
Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, Marquis of Dalí de Púbol (11 May 1904 – 23 January 1989), was a Spanish surrealist artist of Catalan ethnicity born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. One of the most famous artists that has ever lived Dali was a prolific creator working in many mediums such as painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, writing , multi media , photography and filmmaking to name a few. He had an eccentric personality and with his exceptional skill as a draftsman and his unusually imaginative view of the world Dali captured the attention of the public wherever his work was displayed. He created his own personal philosophy which he called paranoid critical a state in which one could simulate delusion while still maintaining one's sanity which influenced the Surrealist movement. Salvador Dalí
Instantly recognizable by his waxed, upturned mustache, the flamboyant Salvador Dalí is one of modern art’s most distinctive figures. He is also one of the icons of the 20th-century avant-garde Surrealist movement, whose dreamlike images, drawn from the depths of the unconscious, he deployed in paintings, sculptures, prints and fashion, as well as in film collaborations with Luis Buñuel and Alfred Hitchcock.
Dalí was born in Figueres, Catalonia, and even as a youngster, displayed the sensitivity, sharp perception and vivid imagination that would later define his artworks. In these, he conjured childhood memories and employed religious symbols and Freudian imagery like staircases, keys and dripping candles to create unexpected, often shocking pieces.
Dalí's use of hyperrealism in conveying Surrealist symbols and concepts that subvert accepted notions of reality is epitomized in what is perhaps his most recognizable painting, The Persistence of Memory (1931), in which he depicts the fluidity of time through melting clocks, their forms inspired by Camembert cheese melting in the sun. His artistic genius, eccentric personality and eternal quest for fame made him a global celebrity.

About the Artist: Salvador Dalí (Spanish, 1904–1989) was a renowned Surrealist artist known for his enigmatic paintings of dreamscapes and religious themes. The Persistence of Memory (1931), arguably his best known work, visually manifests the strangeness of time, showing clocks melting in an idyllic landscape. “One day it will have to be officially admitted that what we have christened reality is an even greater illusion than the world of dreams,” he once reflected. Born Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech on May 11, 1904 in Figueres, Spain, he displayed a great aptitude for the visual arts as a teenager. Three years after his first exhibition at the age of 14, he enrolled at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid. At school, he emulated many contemporary styles but also the works of Johannes Vermeer and Diego Velázquez. During his visits to Paris in the late 1920s, he was introduced to the Surrealist movement by René Magritte and Joan Miró. Though the concept of Surrealism was new to him, Dalí was already well versed in the psychoanalytic theories of Sigmund Freud.
