Doble giro, con negro y azul

About the Item

Joseph Kosuth, father of conceptual art, once famously said: “Works of art that try to tell us something about the world are bound to fail (…)The absence of reality in art is exactly art’s reality”. This maxim, which is nothing if not radical, seems to govern the work of Rosa Brun, one of the most renowned artists in her native Spain. Rosa Brun’s creations are preoccupied above all with the effect of colour on the spectator, through a sheer release of aesthetic enjoyment. Her work meanders from painting to sculpture (and back again) freely, without boundaries or constraints. In fact, there is in what Brun does a constant fusion, tension, or even dissolution between these two media, creating a synergy that culminates in artistic works of visual and geometric abstraction. Brun’s work is extraordinarily inward-looking, almost withdrawn, concerned as it is with exploring the effects of her artistic creations on the senses (pigmentation, volume, light, shade, etc.). But if her work is muted, it is visually alive, capable of activating all of our senses as we contemplate the pieces before us. Through her art, Brun engages in a dialogue with space and architecture, and her work almost levitates above ground.

Untitled #2/ Tied series 10.0 x 16.0 x 0.5, 1.0 lbs Handmade paper Hand signed by artist Artist's Commentary: "'Tied', the title of the installation series, is a phonetic pun on the rising tides and the paper pages bound by threads.
As the water rises and falls, pages of our daily experience add and subtract to and from our memory. Our daily life permeates our memory just as the ink is absorbed into each page and create new shapes and patterns onto what once was a clean slate of a blank page." About the Artist: Yoonshin Park is a Chicago based multimedia artist, curator, and educator working with sculptural papers, artist books, and installations. Her interest in the comprehensive process of papermaking and bookbinding caters her work to encompass various elements woven into complete objects. She often uses her experience as a foreign transplant to question space and its implications in defining one's identity as the inspiration behind her work. VERSO EQUIVALENCE 1 - acrylic, staples, pine wood, cut linen -Abstract geometric
By Linda King Ferguson
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
This painting by Linda King Ferguson is part of her equivalence series, which began as a feminist project; works that subvert the historically male gaze and a material language speaking of gendered concerns. While typically, King Ferguson paints both sides of the canvas and cuts a flap on the the frontside to reveal the color of the back of the canvas, she unexpectedly does the opposite here. The painting is hung from the "frontside" of the canvas, revealing to us the raw edges of her linen canvas, stapled to the stretchers. Two oblong shapes of pink and red dominate the center of the painting. A thin semioval cut has been made inside of both of these shapes. Her color choices first came from Helen Molesworth’s essay, Painting With Ambivalence, published in WACK! Art of the Feminist Revolution. The Essay includes a large reproduction of Mary Heilmann’s 1979 painting...
