Picasso : Catalogue of the edited ceramic works 1947-1971, by Alain Ramié, Editions Madoura, Vallauris, 1988, illustrated under no.333, p.170. "Jacqueline au chevalet" is a remarkable ceramic work created by Pablo Picasso, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Made in the mid-20th century, this piece reflects Picasso’s profound engagement with the medium of ceramics during his later years, particularly in the South of France, where he worked extensively at the Madoura pottery workshop in Vallauris. The plate portrays Jacqueline Roque, Picasso's muse and second wife, who became a central figure in his life and art from the 1950s onward. In this stylized depiction, Jacqueline is shown at an easel (chevalet), suggesting an artistic exchange or possibly a tribute to her presence and inspiration in Picasso’s creative world. The imagery is rendered in a playful, abstract manner typical of Picasso’s ceramic oeuvre, with bold incisions and a harmonious earthy palette, accented by turquoise around the rim. This piece captures not only the personal connection between Picasso and Jacqueline but also the artist’s lifelong passion for reinvention and experimentation. It remains a prized example of how he blurred the boundaries between fine art and craft.

Located in Palo Alto, CA
Pablo Picasso Visage d’homme (Man’s Head), 1968-1969 A.R. 570 showcases the artist’s unrivaled ability to illustrate human nuance. Each aspect of the man’s face, from his furrowed brow to his side gaze is carefully illustrated. The crowding of horizontal lines on his brow and vertical lines on his nose bring a sense of tension to his face, which compounds the furrowed brow. There are only two colors on the plaque, black and red, but the semi circle of hair atop the mans head...
