Veda Hallowes is a distinguished sculptor and Member of the Royal Society of Sculptors (MRSS), holding advanced diplomas in ceramics and sculpture. Originally from South Africa, she began her career as a nurse before moving to London, where she discovered her passion for art. She initially focused on ceramics, crafting delicate porcelain pieces and running a successful ceramics school from her South West London studio. In the 1990s, she transitioned to working with bronze, embarking on a lifelong exploration of form, texture, and movement. To date, she has created over 150 bronze sculptures, each produced in limited editions of up to nine. Veda’s work is best known for its exquisite depictions of fruits and seeds, which transcend their botanical origins to evoke the fluidity and elegance of the female form. Her sculptures exude a sense of ambiguity and vitality, inviting viewers to engage with their own interpretations. Through her series of small fruit sculptures, she explores themes of connection and relationships, while her striking ‘spill’ pieces blur the line between reality and imagination, encouraging interaction and reinterpretation. Beyond her bronze sculptures, Veda has expanded her artistic practice to include intricate wall hangings of butterflies and birds, designed to play with light and shadow, creating a dynamic visual experience.
