Antique Art Nouveau Ceramic Table or Mantel Clock with Bronze Flower Sculptures
Located in Lisse, NL
Rare and stunning majolica glazed antique clock from the European Art Nouveau era.
If you like rare Arts & Crafts antiques in general and marvelous clocks in particular then this handcrafted table clock from circa 1900-1910 could be the perfect addition to your collection / interior. When you understand how many difficult and time consuming techniques it took to create this antique work of time telling art, will you really be able to appreciate its beauty, rarity and quality. First of all, it would have taken a designer several days, if not weeks, to hand draw this design and this would take multiple sketches. Secondly, a ceramics specialist created the perfectly shaped and glazed majolica 'clock house'. This requires glazing and heating/'baking' in the keln and there too many things can go wrong. Thirdly, the aesthetically beautiful flower sculptures that you now see in gilt bronze, would first have to be sculpted out of clay or another material. From that initial sculpture a mold would have to be made and that mold would then be filled with extremely hot liquid bronze. The bronze sculpture would then have to be sanded, polished and gilt. Fourthly, in both the glazed ceramic clock house and the bronze flowers...

Questions About Maple & Co. Furniture
- 1stDibs ExpertOctober 26, 2021The main difference between spalted maple and ambrosia maple owes to their origins. Spalting is seen on partially decayed wood — it is a fungal discoloration and leads to the formation of thick black lines. Ambrosia maple, on the other hand, is formed because of the activities of wood-boring beetles that bring with them ambrosia fungi that stains the wood. It gives ambrosia maple a striped appearance. Shop a collection of ambrosia and spalted maple furniture on 1stDibs today.
- What is Spalted maple?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertFebruary 22, 2021Spalted maple is not a specific species of maple, but rather a type of maple that has begun to partially decay. The dark contrasting lines in this wood are evidence of the decay and referred to as splating.
- What is tiger maple wood?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022Tiger maple wood goes by many other names, but most commonly it is called flame maple. It can also be called curly maple, ripple maple or fiddleback. It’s the striped pattern of this wood that gives it all of these descriptive names. Shop a collection of tiger maple furniture from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
- What color is maple wood?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertMay 3, 2024What color maple wood is varies. The heartwood of a maple tree tends to have a reddish-brown color. - 1stDibs ExpertMay 3, 2024Yes, maple is a good wood for furniture. The hardness and density of the material make for sturdy furniture that can hold up to the effects of regular use. In addition, many people find the natural grain patterns of maple wood to be visually appealing. On 1stDibs, explore a selection of maple wood furniture.
- Why is Jacob & Co. so expensive?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertApril 22, 2024Jacob & Co. is so expensive for a few reasons. For one thing, many of the Swiss watchmaker's timepieces are complicated. One features more than 830 components, each of which must be produced or purchased, tested and painstakingly assembled by hand, adding to the cost. The materials that go into each watch, such as 18-karat gold and genuine diamonds, are costly as well. Plus, only a limited number of timepieces leave the watchmaker's workshop each year, so demand usually far exceeds supply. On 1stDibs, explore a range of Jacob & Co. watches.
- Who is Tiffany and Co owned by?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022The legendary American luxury house Tiffany & Co. is currently owned by Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), which completed the acquisition of the company in January, 2021. The firm started out modestly — Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young founded it in Connecticut as a “stationery and fancy goods emporium” in 1837, at a time when European imports still dominated the nascent American luxury market. Upon Charles’ death in 1902, his son Louis Comfort Tiffany took over artistic direction for the brand. On 1stDibs, find authentic Tiffany & Co. pieces from some of the world's top sellers.

- 1stDibs ExpertJune 30, 2023To tell if a Tiffany & Co. bracelet is real, first check the overall quality of the piece. If the accessory is 18k gold, it will be stamped with the number “750.” If it’s sterling silver, it’ll have a “925” stamp, and if it’s platinum, it will feature a “950” stamp. Tiffany & Co. split off from the lamps division a long time ago with Tiffany Studios taking on the lamp design and products. Tiffany Studios closed in 1930 and there are no new designs. Today you can still purchase new Tiffany Lamps based on the old designs. On 1stDibs, find a collection of authentic Tiffany Lamp pieces from some of the world’s top sellers.
- 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 1, 2024No, Tiffany & Co. jewelry does not typically go on sale. Occasionally, the acclaimed jewelry house will run in-boutique or online specials to coincide with holidays like Christmas or Valentine's Day, but these sorts of sales do not run regularly.
