Norwegian, 1917-1999

Torbjørn Afdal was one of the leading designers at Bruksbo Tegnekontor and in Scandinavia. Afdal became more well known when his furniture was bought by US first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and by the Japanese Emperor. In later years, he was granted the commission to design the parliamentary and chairs and tables to the courthouse in Oslo.

Attractive set of six mid century high-backed dining chairs/armchairs by Torbjørn Afdal. Made of solid rosewood, seats and back upholstered in black leather. Seats (non-removable) each have four decorative seams. Manufactured at Nesjestranda Møbelfabrikk, Norway. Sold in used vintage condition and sits comfortably. Typical age related wear to leather includes scuffs, scratches, some crackling, impressions to foam seat, etc. Minor scratches, scuffs to wood frame.
