Syncopation XX
By Jane B. Grimm
Located in Burlingame, CA
Coral to bright orange low fired glazed ceramic on wood sculptural wall work of art from Pop Art pioneer Jane B. Grimm, whose artistic career began in the 1960’s, when her free-form sculptural jewelry exploded onto the fashion scene in NYC. Her designs spoke to a new generation well into the 1970's, when they were regularly featured in, and graced the covers of, Harper's Bazaar and Vogue magazines. Shadow Play
By Anne Subercaseaux
Located in Burlingame, CA
'Shadow Plat' is 40.5 x 37 inches. Anne Subercaseaux's gleaming paintings realistically bridge urban with rural in the form of representational fragmented depictions of contemporary architecture, including city structures, roadways, and bridges as they intersect with natural shadows and light. There is an ethereal quality to her meditative images that celebrate the natural abstract beauty all around us. Artist signed, titled and dated verso. Condition is excellent. Reflections on Crossing VLVIII
By Anne Subercaseaux
Located in Burlingame, CA
Shades of blue-grey and cobalt at play in Anne Subercaseaux's wonderful 'Reflections on Crossing VLVIII', oil on canvas. Anne Subercaseaux finds substance in the insubstantial, in paintings that freeze the ephemeral patterns of reflection and shadow. In her muted, almost monochrome palettes, images seem familiar but still elusive. The precise silhouette of a bridge girder or a windblown branch moves into focus and out again, a fleeting glimpse from the corner of the eye...

Down by the Pier
By Diana Tremaine
Located in Burlingame, CA
'The Wind Whipped Up and They Welcomed Its Offering' - seagulls stand against an abstracted beach scene in this contemporary oil on canvas painting, 'Contemplating Progress II', by artist Diana Tremaine, whose series of paintings that depict abstracted birds and natural elements is called "Navigating Crosscurrents". The 45 x 45 inch painting beautifully bridges abstraction with realism via a calming palette of warmth and layers of paint. Tremaine's dynamic, representational and nature-centric oil paintings reflect a search for truth and meaning. The artist develops brushstrokes and marks by adding and then obliterating some of the story in a free-association editorial process of discovering what is most important and lasting. The melancholy images echo her experiences in an autobiographical fashion, but they are also universal and touch upon and evoke our collective memories like ghosts of what was. Created with a limited palette, there is visual poetry in her surfaces, including the tension that exists when simultaneously holding on and letting go. Diana Tremaine's Artist Statement for this series, 'Navigating Crosscurrents': "I am often taken aback by the might shown by tiny little songbirds managing the winds and rains that at times surround them. In my “Navigating Crosscurrents” series, the birds stand as metaphors for the human experience while the abstraction around them represents the forces - both internal and external, natural and man-made - that act around and within each of us every day. Life is a balancing act – at times breezy and light, at others cacophonous and overwhelming. These images speak metaphorically to the delicate balance and fortitude required as we journey down our respective paths." The bicoastal New York City-born artist studied and taught in both Northern and Southern California. She later moved to Montana—in a search for spiritual space and room to breathe—where she works and lives with her family, dogs and horses. 'Down by the Pier...

Still Life with Picasso
By Willard Dixon
Located in Burlingame, CA
Willard Dixon, who says "the charm of Still Life painting for the artist lies in the ability to manipulate ones subject matter and in the intimate, direct nature of the painting process. It is very much a studio-centric activity, complete and self-sufficient. The objects that one works with do seem to take on a life of their own, both by themselves and in their affinity for one another. They have a history, a patina, they may be new, or world-weary." The artist continues, "My collection has been substantially whittled down to an essential few over the years, yet their combinations seem infinite. There is a lengthy and persistent shuffling, adding and eliminating to find that particular combination that suddenly takes on a rightness or self-sufficiency. It is interesting how one small object of the right color in the right place can facilitate such an event, or in another case the removal of something, a simplifying. I have a feeling when composing these paintings similar to my experience of playing with my jazz...

Gold with Quadrants
By Irene Zweig
Located in Burlingame, CA
Geometric and serene in its complexity - abstract contemporary painting created with impeccable attention to detail by deconstructing original watercolors into dime sized triangular cut outs and then affixing them to a wooden panel. Artist Irene Zweig rearranges the media into a new and unique design, where the eye interprets the original message as subliminal; with the components of it still present, and the result is one of contemplative balance and harmony. Fine art, science and mathematics blend in Zweig's intellectually curious and aesthetically sound works that beautifully relate to other eclectic works. 'Gold with...

'Tall Tulips' bespoke watercolor
By Gary Bukovnik
Located in Burlingame, CA
'Tall Tulips' original watercolor painted in 2021 in subtle shades of pink with hints of yellow in a clear blue vase from Cleveland-born and educated Gary Bukovnik who has lived in California for over 40 years. Bukovnik’s art conveys a monumental quality. Primarily using the mediums of watercolor, monotype, and lithograph, Bukovnik fuses sensual vitality with fluid yet powerful colorations, creating floral images of great depth and intensity. The paper is 40 x 20 inches. Ships flat and unframed. Although professional framing is available upon request. This is a stunning and wonderful work of art from Gary Bukovnik. In 2003 and 2005, the American Academy in Rome invited Bukovnik to attend the academy as a Visiting Artist and provided him with a room and studio for six weeks. In 2001, he was selected to create a poster for the prestigious List Collection, which creates posters to commemorate programs at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York. Lincoln Center past contributors have included Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Alex Katz, Elizabeth Murray, and Donald Sultan. Solo exhibitions include Caldwell Snyder Gallery in San Francisco and in St. Helena, CA; Trajan Gallery in Carmel, CA; Campton Gallery in New York City; Concept Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA; Elins Eagles-Smith Gallery and A.C.T. Gallery in San Francisco, the Bonfoey Gallery in Cleveland and the Erickson Fine Art Gallery in Healdsburg. Museum of Art, Johnstown, Pennsylvania; Chin Show Cultural Center, Taipei; Takashimaya, Tokyo; the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh; and Brevard Museum of Art, Melbourne, Florida. Atelier Raymond Picaud has been at the forefront of progressive tapestry firms since the 1930s, focusing on images of modern artists such as Alexander Calder, Georges Braque, and Helen Frankenthaler. Bukovnik’s watercolors and monotypes are the subject of Flowers: Gary Bukovnik Watercolors & Monotypes, published by Harry N. Abrams, New York. This book includes a foreword by James J. White, curator at the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation; an interview with the artist by Robert Flynn Johnson, curator at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco; and an essay about Bukovnik and the depiction of flowers in art...
