Early Production #920 Sofa by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina, c 1966, Signed

About the Item

This early production Model #920 modular four-seat sofa by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina was designed in circa 1966 and this example is from the earlier years of production as evidenced by the early style 'Figli di Amedeo Cassina' labels on each section (see photos). Featuring soft supple black leather cushions which extend to the arms and backside along with nicely grained Walnut accents to the frame, this sofa is in two parts and can either be used together as one long four-seat sofa or separated as two loveseat settees. In addition - the sofa can be further separated into individual seats by removing the bolts that connect the individual sections as each of the four sections have a full set of legs. So you can set this up in a myriad of different ways including four lounge chairs, a settee and two lounge chairs, a three-seat sofa and a lounge chair or a four-seat sofa as shown in the photos. The lightly aged black leather is very soft and quality - something you don't find in leather products of today. Everything on this sofa is original, making it ideal for collectors or interior designers with clients who require a high-bar of excellence. This black leather and Walnut four seater Model 920 sectional couch by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Cassina would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Post-Modern, Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: H 25.75" x *W 117" x D 31" *Separated, each two-seat section is 58.5" wide **You can also further separate into 4 sections each approximately 29.25" wide Seat Height: 14" Arm Height: 15" Seat Depth: 21" CONDITION: Good vintage condition with light age, wear and patina throughout. Some scuffs and scratches to the walnut as can be seen in photos. If desired, we can refinish the wood portions. The original leather is very nice with light aging. Attractive and presentable, this sofa is ready for immediate use.

  • Loveseat Sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
    By Sormani, Claudio Salocchi
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered loveseat sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features a graceful chrome frame with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching pair of club chairs available in another listing. The graceful frame shares a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However this Sormani sofa features some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair two-seater couch is an amazing opportunity. This Cassina LC2 / LC3 loveseat...

This set has been previously professionally reupholstered with only light use and in very good condition.
