The idea to upgrade every day school life by using pictures was supported in the late 18th century by Johann Bernhard Basedow. In 1774 he published a four-volume book "Elementarwerk" which combined pictures, text and information with merely hundred copperplates. These works depicted idyllic forests and prison-like skyscrapers populated by butterfly or bird/human hybrids he called “Everymen.” Folon’s drawings were published in such publications as Esquire, The New Yorker, and Time, among others, and he illustrated a number of well-known books. Folon widely exhibited during his lifetime, including at institutions such as Les Arts Décoratifs, the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, and the Musée Picasso.

Both the beginning and the end of Charles Eyck's life (1897 - 1983) took place in the Dutch province of Limburg. In his life he produced paintings, sculptures, buildings and stained glass. After studying in Asmterdam he won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1922. With the prize money he travelled through France and Italy to study art. Charles got inspired on his trip by fresco's and mosaic's from the 14th and 15th century, this influence can be spotted in a lot of his works later in his life. Eyck's work is still alive today as a lot of his assignments were for public institutes and churches which still can be visited. Junichiro Sekino Signed Limited Edition Japanese Woodblock Print Rooftop View

A wonderfully composed and richly colored, limited edition woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Junichiro Sekino.
This relatively large print, which is of a rooftop view of a temple shrine in Japan (perhaps Nagasaki as he did a similar print in 1975 but perhaps Kyoto or Tokyo) is hand pencil signed, sealed / stamped in red, numbered (18/128), and dated (1972). The image is likely from Sekino's coveted rooftop series that he did featuring various rooftop patterns from around the world including Japan and Italy. An exquisite and rare / hard-to-find work.
Junichiro Sekino was largely considered, along with Kiyoshi Saito, to be one of Japan's paramount 20th-century master print artists. Both were prominent leaders of the Sosaku Hanga movement. Sekino's works can be found in many museums including:
The Museum of Modern Art, N. Y., the Art Institute Chicago, the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, the British Museum, and the Portland Art Museum among many other Fine museums throughout the world.
