18th Century Chinese Export porcelain Can/Mug Depicting Archery, As Found*

About the Item

18th Century Chinese Export Porcelain Can/Mug Depicting Archery, As Found* A rare and unusual subject in Chinese export porcelain. This large-handled can or mug depicts a front vignette of four nobles in flowing robes in the landscape, practicing the sport of archery. The mug is continuously decorated with a dimpled blue and white background with raised reliefs of flowers, butterflies, and dragonflies. There are signs of older restorations to this work. This piece was so revered that it was repaired long ago. The body of the mug is structurally sound; the handle has been restuck, and there is a repaired chip on the top rim above the handle. This extraordinary subject matter in 18th-century Chinese export porcelain is ready to be gently added to your collection.
