Antique Chinese Foo Dog Hand Carved Bamboo Gilded, 19th Century Qing

About the Item

This is a good Chinese hand carved bamboo Foo or Lion Dog, sometimes called a temple lion that we date to the 19th Century Qing period. The piece is hand carved from a piece of bamboo, as a fierce dog or lion sat on a circular base, with a brocade ball under its paw and a ball in its mouth. The carving is well done and would have been gold gilded originally, with much of the gilding now worn away. The carving has developed a very good depth of colour in places from polishing & age and we date this piece to the first half of the 19th century, possibly earlier.
