Famille Rose 19th Century Hexagon Chinese Export Ginger Jar

About the Item

Color and shape make this 19th century Chinese export ginger jar a standout. It is hexagonal with parcel gilt from the late 19th century according to our appraiser. The colors are bright, but there is some paint loss. The overall condition of the piece is very good without chips or cracks. The rose Medallion enameled and parcel gilt pattern on porcelain is clear and sharp overall. The stand is for display only. The lid has a gilt finial. The body is decorated with a large figural panel and another panel with flowers and tiny insects, framed within a border of fruits and flowers.. The color palette of Famille Rose was introduced from Europe around 1685 according to Encyclopedia Britannica, and the Chinese during the time, considered the pink and carmine tones to be "foreign colors." Today, these rose colors and shades are universally appreciated. This is a beautiful piece in very good condition.
